Work is performed under regular supervision.Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:\nOperates equipment loading recyclables onto conveyors, loading into baler hopper, dumping recycling baskets and loading scrap metal, white goods, and glass into roll-offs.\nOperates loader and skid steer loading recyclables onto conveyors, moving cardboard, wood and metals into appropriate areas and moving recycling baskets in and out daily; roll-off containers and compactor.\nOperates rotary broom to sweep and scrub tipping floor.\nOperates forklift transporting and loading bales of recyclables onto semi-trailers.\nChecks recycling and residual baskets under sorting lines and replaces when full.\nServices equipment by greasing and blow out filters, does pre trip inspections daily.\nOperates light equipment and assists on the sorting line when needed.\nAble to communicate and properly use handheld radio.\nOperates balers, strappers.\nFuel equipment as needed.\nEnsures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.\nParticipates in special projects and other duties as assigned\nQualifications:\nQualifications\nExperience with heavy equipment is required.\nMust be able to lift to 50 pounds or more with assistance.\nMust be 18 years of age.\nMust have good driving and safety records.\nValid Driver’s License in North Carolina or another state\nPreferred Skills\nHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.\nExperience as a Mechanic\nNC CDL \nPhysical Requirements\nHearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are both necessary to converse with internal and external customers including co-workers, citizens, and applicants.\nVisual Abilities - the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:\nAcuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see from a distance when administering and observing employment tests, operating a motor vehicle, or addressing an audience.\nAcuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see work-related business documents close at hand.\nDepth perception - Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships.\nField of Vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Worker is required to work in extremely hot weather and extremely cold weather without heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. The position is best suited for someone who doesn’t mind getting hot, cold, wet, dirty, and sweaty.\nHazards\nEmployee will be exposed to trash and garbage as well as various other items as discarded.
