If you have the experience, drive, and passion for making a positive impact, we encourage you to apply today!Why Join Us?\nImpact Your Community: Play a vital role in keeping High Point clean by helping with the collection and proper disposal of solid waste.\nSupportive Team Environment: Work with a dedicated team led by a Sanitation Supervisor, with opportunities for professional growth and skill development.\n• Career Growth: Starting as a Sanitation Equipment Operator I, you’ll have opportunities to advance within the division as you gain experience and take on more responsibilities.\nEssential Tasks & Responsibilities:\nOperate Key Equipment: Safely drive and operate equipment used in solid waste collection, including automated side-loaders, rear-loaders, boom trucks, swap-loaders, and front-end loaders on assigned routes.\nSupervise and Lead: Lead and supervise a two-man crew, ensuring the safe and efficient collection of solid waste.\nMaintain Equipment: Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections, perform routine preventive maintenance, and ensure equipment is clean and well-maintained for optimal performance.\nReport and Enforce: Report violations of the solid waste ordinance to the supervisor and ensure adherence to regulations and safety standards.\nCollect and Dispose of Waste: Drive assigned routes to collect and dispose of refuse, yard waste, debris, junked furniture, and appliances, properly disposing of materials at established sites.\nCollaborate with Crew: Work as a productive member of a solid waste collection team, assisting in all aspects of refuse removal and working to ensure timely service.\nLog Work and Report: Use mobile devices to log work or any infractions for accurate reporting and tracking.\nEngage with the Public: Answer questions from citizens regarding the Environmental Services Division’s procedures and practices, providing friendly, knowledgeable service.\nEnsure Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.\nQualifications:\nREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS\nValid North Carolina Class B CDL Driver’s License\nClean driving and safety record\nAbility to lead and direct others for extended periods in all weather conditions\nKnowledge of safety standards and the ability to ensure compliance with OSHA and City policies\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS\nHearing/Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, both in person and via two-way radio or phone.\nVisual Abilities: Must have the ability to perceive objects and surroundings clearly.\nPhysical Strength:\nMedium to heavy work: Regularly exerting up to 50 pounds of force; occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.\nConstant handling, reaching, and occasional fine motor work (e.g., picking or pinching).\nMental Activity/Requirements\nReasoning: Ability to apply logical thinking to tasks, respond promptly to situations, and follow safety regulations. Strong judgment skills are essential.\nEnvironmental Conditions\nPhysical Surroundings: Exposure to various weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, sleet, and snow. Must be comfortable working outdoors in challenging conditions for extended periods.\nHazards: Potential exposure to waste, recyclables, and other discarded materials.
