As a Water & Sewer Mains Technician, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the City of High Point’s water and sewer systems running smoothly. From installing and repairing pipes, meters, and valves to ensuring the distribution and collection systems are in top condition, no two days will be the same. You’ll work alongside a dedicated team, maintaining essential infrastructure and supporting the city's facilities-plus, you’ll have the chance to take on a variety of tasks, including cleaning duties, to keep everything in top shape. If you’re ready for hands-on, meaningful work that helps keep the city flowing, we want to hear from you!Essential Tasks & Responsibilities:\nOperate motorized sewer cleaning equipment, including flusher, vacuum, and rodding machinery.\nAssist in the installation, replacement, and repair of water mains, sewer lines, taps, fire hydrants, valves, and meters.\nRespond to water and sewer line issues, cleaning lines and manholes as needed.\nRaise and lower manholes and valve boxes.\nTap high-pressure lines and make connections.\nInspect sewer lines using TV inspection systems.\nSupport W/S Technicians and Crew Leaders by preparing and distributing tools, equipment, and materials for ongoing projects.\nSet up traffic control signs, ensuring safety for work crews.\nOperate service vehicles, transporting materials and equipment to and from job sites.\nAble to work in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.\nRotate on-call duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays.\nUse hand tools to perform various tasks related to utility line maintenance.\nCommunicate with team members and departments using a two-way radio.\nEnsure all work complies with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.\nQualifications:\nRequired Minimum Qualifications\nValid driver’s license.\nMust be 18 years or older.\nMust be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on call.\nPreferred Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or GED.\nCDL permit with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.\nCDL with Tanker Endorsement or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.\nBasic First-Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within 1 year of hire (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council).\nPhysical Requirements\nManual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and arms for reaching, grasping, and handling objects, as well as fine motor skills for tasks requiring precision.\nHearing and Speaking: Ability to communicate effectively in noisy environments, both to give directives and respond to questions.\nVisual Abilities: Far acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more for safety and task management (20/22 corrected).\n Near acuity: Ability to focus on close tasks such as paperwork and tools (20/25 corrected).\n Depth perception: Ability to judge distance and space for safe coordination of tasks (5 depth perception score).\nField of vision: Wide visual span to monitor surroundings for safety.\nAccommodation: Ability to adjust focus for near and far tasks, ensuring safety and task completion.\n\nPhysical Strength:Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds consistently.\nPhysical tasks include sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, lifting, bending, and using arms, hands, legs, and feet.\n\nRepetitive Tasks: Frequent use of reaching, handling, and fingering.\nMental Activity/Requirements\nReasoning: Ability to apply logical thinking to solve problems, respond to emergencies, and follow directives effectively.\n Mathematical Ability: Ability to calculate material requirements for projects (e.g., concrete, asphalt).\nLanguage Ability: Ability to read and comprehend manuals, plans, safety regulations, and other job-related documents.\nWriting: Ability to document tasks, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.\nEnvironmental Conditions\nPhysical Surroundings: Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, high winds, and fog.\nHazards: Exposure to dirt, debris, plants, insects, confined spaces, and potential contact with bloodborne pathogens, by OSHA standards.\nEquipment: Use of motor vehicles, hand tools, electric tools, plumbing equipment, computers, measuring devices, and communication tools.\nSpecial Requirements: Must have a strong understanding of traffic and safety regulations, as well as the maintenance, repair, and construction of water and sewer systems.\nThe work location of this job will be 816 E Green Dr High Point, North Carolina.Our Commitments\nThe City of High Point is dedicated to fostering a work environment that values individuals from all backgrounds and seeksto attract and retainthe most qualified partners in service to the citizens of High Point.
