The Care engineering team builds provider- and support-agent-facing web applications and the backend platforms behind our integrated Care Platform and pharmacy operations. You'll help build the next generation of tools for a modern, patient-centric model of healthcare.\nAs Director of Engineering for Care, you'll own engineering strategy and delivery for the clinician and patient experience, from intake and consultation through prescription. You'll lead the team building clinical systems where speed has to coexist with patient safety, regulatory compliance, and auditability. You'll partner with product, design, data, clinical, pharmacy, and operations leaders, set the multi-year technical and organizational strategy, and develop the engineering leaders who will carry it forward.\nYou Will:\nOwn technical vision, architecture, and delivery for Care, including intake, consultation, clinician workflows, prescribing, care-team and support tooling, and the handoff to pharmacy.\n\nDefine and deliver the engineering roadmap with product and design, balancing innovation, reliability, scalability, and quality.\n\nLead the shift to a durable domain model with clear boundaries and enforced contracts, moving teams off direct cross-domain database access and toward APIs and published events.\n\nEnsure the platform meets requirements for patient safety, clinical guardrails, security, privacy (HIPAA), and state and federal regulation, including controlled-substance prescribing.\n\nSet and hold reliability standards (SLOs, incident response) for patient-critical flows.\n\nLead the transition to an AI-first engineering culture, with AI-assisted development, review, and spec-driven workflows backed by measurable goals.\n\nBuild and mentor engineering managers and technical leaders, with a focus on succession planning and a strong technical bench.\n\nOwn staffing and organizational strategy, including hiring, headcount planning, and team structure as the domain evolves.\n\nDrive alignment across teams and partners, managing trade-offs between speed, technical debt, and innovation.\n\nRepresent engineering in executive forums, translating strategy, status, and risk for senior stakeholders.\n\nYou Have:\n12+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years managing managers or multiple teams in high-growth environments.\n\nA track record building and operating systems that handle clinical or other regulated health data, with working knowledge of HIPAA and compliance-driven design.\n\nExperience owning end-to-end user experiences with cross-functional product engineering teams.\n\nStrong grounding in modern service architectures (Spring Boot, Kotlin, PostgreSQL) and the judgment to guide design decisions in depth.\n\nExperience integrating third-party health and pharmacy systems, such as labs, e-prescribing networks, and pharmacy platforms.\n\nAbility to define and execute technical roadmaps tied to product vision and business outcomes.\n\nStrong communication skills and executive presence, translating between technical, clinical, and business stakeholders.\n\nA demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering talent.\n\nComfort making risk trade-offs where patient safety and speed conflict.\n\nPreferred: experience in telehealth, digital health, or other regulated clinical environments.\nOur Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):\nCompetitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles\n\nUnlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days\n\nComprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave\n\nEmployee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)\n\n401k benefits with employer matching contribution\n\nOffsite team retreats\n\nWe are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging.
