Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:\nMaster’s Degree in the relevant area, terminal degree preferred\nAt least 5 years of experience in an appropriate organizational work setting\nFor online classes, prior experience teaching online is preferred\nMust complete Hinds Community College New Online Instructor Training\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.\nOther duties may be assigned.\nTeach assigned courses as specified in the schedule and course contract (2 course limit per semester)\nIncorporate Hinds Community College departmental texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans\nProvide students the approved college-wide syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria\nUse the College’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students\nDeliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered\nObserve and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress\nBe available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email\nMaintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the College\nEncourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available and use feedback to improve course delivery\nRevise and update course content as needed\nAdjuncts are encouraged to attend one or more PDI sessions to become familiar with the College’s mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures and the learning management system\nMeet with the Dean of eLearning or Discipline Department Head or Curriculum Coordinator as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development\nSubmit an annual performance review acknowledgement and plan for meeting requirements if needed.\nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None\nSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:\nCurrent knowledge of the relevant discipline\nDemonstrated effectiveness in teaching adult learners\nCommitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students\nAbility to respond to the needs of learners from a variety of educational backgrounds in a multicultural environment\nAbility to deliver course outcomes and content through a variety of teaching/learning styles\nAbility to use technology effectively in teaching\nRespect for students and a genuine interest in their learning\nAbility to communicate effectively both orally and in writing\nGood organizational skills and timeliness in responding to student inquiries\nAbility to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with students and colleagues\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
