The Opportunity
Hinge Health is the leader in Digital Physical Therapy, and we’re expanding into new areas of care. In April, we launched our comprehensive Migraine Care Program, which is already available to more than two million people through 125+ clients.
We’re now building a team from the ground up to launch our Gastrointestinal (GI) Care Program. GI conditions affect roughly one in four U.S. adults and drive $135 billion in annual medical spending, yet access to specialized care remains limited.
Our planned acquisition of Cylinder Health, a leader in virtual-first digestive healthcare, gives us a strong foundation for entering this market. Together, the teams will combine Cylinder’s clinical expertise and market presence with Hinge Health’s AI-powered care model and technology platform.
This is an opportunity for an engineering leader to build a new product from the ground up, shape the future of digital GI care, and define the experience millions of Americans could access through their healthcare plans in 2027.
As the Engineering Manager for GI, you’ll build an understanding for the 60M+ Americans afflicted by this health condition, ensuring that Hinge Health builds a comprehensive end-to-end experience to treat them, run rapid experiments to validate your assumptions, and launch a brand new digital care product for GI. You’ll partner closely with senior leadership, Product, Design, and Marketing across our hubs in San Francisco, Montreal, and Bangalore to build a new GI product. As a hands-on engineering leader, you’ll stay close to the stack, regularly contributing to and reviewing code (~15% of your time) while building a high-performing team around you.
What You’ll Accomplish
In your first 3 months, you will:
Build a team of 5 engineers building across our React Native (Phoenix) mobile codebase and backend services (Go & JS), establishing clear goals, rituals, and expectations for a high-performing team.
Define the new vertical/product line from scratch.
Build strong partnerships with Product, Design, and Marketing to align on the strategy, experimentation roadmap, and success metrics.
In your first 6 months, you will:
Build the “new vertical” product as a minimum loveable product (MLP) defining how to use display software, AI solutions and licensed care providers to deliver a significant health improvement for members.
Establish a rigorous portfolio of A/B experiments to run post launch of the new product planning for funnel optimizations to ensure success of members.
Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and client performance across the entire stack.
Within 12 months and beyond, you will:
Have launched the “new vertical” product.
Execute a series of A/B experiments to increase usage and success of the new product
Grow and mentor your team, raising the bar on engineering quality, experimentation rigor, and operational excellence.
Who You Are
0->1 Builder: We are looking for engineering managers with a track record of building new products from scratch.
Talent magnet: someone who can quickly pull together a team to build the “new vertical” product.
You move fast, know how to balance innovation vs reuse, and deliver clear business results..
Hands-on engineering leader: You’re comfortable reading and writing code in modern stacks (e.g., React Native, BFF/full-stack web, GraphQL), and you use that fluency to coach, review, and set technical direction.
Experiment-driven operator: You think in terms of hypotheses, sample sizes, and decision rules, and you can run a dense A/B experimentation roadmap without sacrificing quality.
Systems and UX thinker: You see how architecture, API design, and client performance shape real-world member experiences-and you can align cross-functional partners around trade-offs.
Inclusive team builder: You create clear expectations, give direct feedback, and foster a culture where engineers can do the best work of their careers.
Basic Qualifications
A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
A minimum of 3+ years of experience managing a team of ~5+ engineers in a fast-paced, product-focused environment.
AI-native development: Expertise using tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or similar AI agents as development resources to drastically improve the pace of experimentation, with opinions on prompting, agent review, and harness engineering.
Strong React Native, mobile, or client-side engineering background - or equivalent depth in a BFF/full-stack web context with a track record of shipping member-facing UI at scale.
Experience owning and evolving a major product surface end-to-end - from architecture and UX through experimentation and production reliability.
Demonstrated ability to design, run, and interpret A/B experiments, including comfort reasoning about sample sizes, interference effects, and decision rules.
Preferred Qualifications
React Native: Experience building or leading teams in large React Native codebases, including client performance, render optimization, and app architecture patterns.
Server-Driven UI: Familiarity with SDUI patterns and the trade-offs of moving layout and presentation logic from client to server.
Platform mindset: History operating a shared product surface that other teams extend-defining extension contracts, managing inbound requests, and protecting stability.
GraphQL & modern stacks: Familiarity with GraphQL (caching, BFF patterns, client-driven data-fetching performance), plus working knowledge of Python, TypeScript/Node.js, AWS services (e.g., Lambda, SQS, SNS, SageMaker), and modern DevOps practices.
Regulated environments: Experience working within healthcare (HIPAA) or other highly regulated domains involving sensitive member data.
Location & Hybrid Working Model - San Francisco
This role is based in our San Francisco HQ and follows Hinge Health’s hybrid working model. We believe that remote work and in-person work each have their own advantages, and we want to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. Our San Francisco office also has a dog-friendly workplace program.
