About the Role
As a Bookkeeper, you will manage day-to-day bookkeeping across a portfolio of approximately 5-10 clients, depending on complexity, while also supporting some internal company bookkeeping.
Around 75% of the role is focused on client-facing bookkeeping, with approximately 20-25% dedicated to internal bookkeeping responsibilities. This is a growth and capacity hire designed to support an expanding client base and create additional capacity within the existing accounting team.
The ideal candidate can independently manage AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger activity and ideally take client accounts further through month-end work and adjusting entries. You will work directly with clients, Account Managers, vendors, banks, and other third parties, so strong communication and accuracy are essential.
Responsibilities
- Own accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping for an assigned portfolio of approximately 5-10 client accounts, depending on workload and complexity.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll for assigned clients and internal company operations.
- Record cash, AR, AP, inventory, revenue, expenses, and other financial transactions accurately.
- Maintain complete and accurate general ledgers across multiple client accounts.
- Perform bank, account, and general ledger reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Manage invoicing, deposits, collections, coding, payment processing, and revenue recognition.
- Process payroll accurately and on time, including payroll-tax calculations and related entries.
- Support month-end accounting processes and prepare adjusting journal entries where required.
- Provide accurate financial information to Account Managers to support reporting and client decision-making.
- Communicate directly and professionally with clients, vendors, banks, and other third parties.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, workflows, and efficiency through technology
Requirements
- At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience.
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, including debits, credits, and general ledger accounting.
- Practical experience with AP, AR, payroll, bank or account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Strong QuickBooks experience, with QuickBooks Online highly preferred. QuickBooks Desktop experience is also valuable.
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously while maintaining strong accuracy and organization.
- Strong English communication skills and confidence interacting directly with clients.
- Strong technology proficiency and the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new accounting tools, platforms, and processes.
- Full-cycle bookkeeping experience, including month-end close and adjusting journal entries.
- Experience with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience with DEXT (Nice to have - Training can be provided)
- Experience working with Canadian accounting standards. (nice to have)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. (nice to have)
- Relevant bookkeeping certification or accounting designation. CPA licensing is not required.
