We are united by a common goal: enabling the delivery of data-driven insights for business stakeholders.\nThe Technology organisation comprises a Corporate Centre team and five business-aligned Technology teams that partner with our federated businesses. Our retail technology teams support the UK, Europe and US business units, while our 'big ticket' technology teams partner with the London Market and Re & ILS businesses. Corporate Centre consists of Group & Enterprise Services, IT Services and Information Security. Each team is led by a Technology Director who reports to the CIO. Collectively, the Technology organisation aims to put technology at the heart of the business.\nThe Role\nThe Analytics Engineer designs and maintains trusted, reusable and well-governed analytical assets that provide high-quality information for reporting, analysis and decision-making. You'll collaborate with business stakeholders and technical colleagues to translate business problems into data-driven solutions. You'll take ownership of projects from discovery through to production support, putting your ideas and skills into practice. You'll join a dynamic and rapidly expanding data community with access to leading technologies and exciting opportunities for development within Hiscox.\nKey Responsibilities of an Analytics Engineer:\nDesign, build and maintain reusable analytical data models and curated datasets, using dimensional and other appropriate modelling techniques.\nDesign and build data pipelines, reports and dashboards that deliver reliable, decision-ready information.\nWork with stakeholders to define and maintain governed business metrics and semantic models, ensuring consistent definitions across reports and analytical products.\nEnsure analytical data products remain accurate, complete and reliable.\nUse Git and CI/CD to develop, test and deploy analytics code through controlled environments.\nMaintain clear documentation, ownership, metadata, business definitions, lineage and access controls for analytical data products.\nOptimise data models, transformations and queries for performance, scalability and cost efficiency.\nBuild strong, productive relationships with business stakeholders, IT teams and external third parties to deliver effective solutions based on a deep understanding of business and technology needs.\nProactively engage stakeholders to elicit and document requirements, including user stories, acceptance criteria, functional and non-functional specifications, and business cases.\nIdentify potential solutions and assess their technical and business suitability.\nAct as an internal consultant, owning the design, build and delivery of impactful dashboards, visualisations and reports.\nPromote analytics best practice across the Group.\nDocument key activities, data assets and operational processes.\nSupport the administration, security and maintenance of analytics solutions.\nProvide BAU support to the business, including training and mentoring colleagues.\nEssential Skills:\n5+ years' experience in a business intelligence, data engineering, data analysis or data visualisation role.\nSignificant expertise with modern analytics and BI platforms, ideally Power BI or Fabric. Also Tableau, Qlik or Looker.\nSignificant expertise with cloud data platforms, ideally Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or Google Cloud Platform.\nAdvanced T-SQL skills.\nExperience with Python.\nExperience using Git-based development workflows, including branching, pull requests, peer review and automated deployment pipelines.\nStrong understanding of, and passion for, data visualisation best practice.\nStrong understanding of data modelling concepts.\nBehavioural:\nAbility to influence stakeholders and build credibility.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nCreative, proactive, logical and innovative approach.\nResults-driven, with the energy and determination to succeed in a fast-paced environment.\nDemonstrates a commitment to quality, service and personal ownership.\nAbility to analyse business problems and translate them into data-driven solutions.\nConfident communication with technical and non-technical audiences.\nAbility to prioritise effectively and deliver to deadlines in a changing environment.\nAn inquisitive mindset and a desire to understand both data and business requirements.\nCommitment to continuous learning and self-improvement.\nDesirable Skills:\nCertification from an analytics technology vendor.\nInsurance or financial services experience.\nDegree in science, computer science, mathematics or a similar quantitative discipline.\nAbout Hiscox:\nAs an international specialist insurer we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products.
