This role will work across several lines of business that include Professional Liability, General Liability, BOP, Management Liability, Cyber and other specialty commercial products.\nThe primary function of this role will be to assist in developing and implementing rate strategies through deep independent analysis in partnership with fellow pricing analysts and managers. This role reports to a Pricing Manager, with the primary objective of creating sustainable and profitable growth for Hiscox USA.\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to join Hiscox USA, a growing business where your actions will directly and substantially impact the profitability of the company. You will become part of a team that is leading innovation within the company, working to develop and deploy strong pricing capabilities, and building a best-in-class pricing framework.\nKey Responsibilities:\nRating plan design: Develop pricing frameworks for new products, including selection of rating variables, base rates, relativities, and tiering appropriate for small business commercial risks.\nLaunch filings & monitoring: Prepare state filings, actuarial memoranda, and supporting exhibits for new product approvals; track early performance against pricing assumptions and recommend adjustments as experience emerges.\nRate review & filings: Create, maintain, and streamline the rate change process, including rate indications, factor reviews, competitor comparisons, impact analysis, rate filings, and handle DOI objections.\nImplementation & monitoring: Partner with IT to update raters and policy admin systems, support QA and UAT, and track post-change impacts on premium, mix, retention, hit ratios, and loss ratio.\nProfitability reviews: Perform product, class, segment, and portfolio profitability reviews, translating findings into actionable pricing and underwriting recommendations.\nStrategy & planning: Partner with Product, Underwriting, and Distribution leadership on segment-level pricing strategy - risk selection, tiering, and mix management - and contribute to annual planning discussions.\nMarket monitoring: Track competitor rate activity, market cycle indicators, and regulatory developments, and assess implications for the book.\nData & tools: Build SQL queries, validation routines, and reusable tools, templates, and dashboards that give the team and business partners faster access to pricing insights.\nActuarial methods & governance: Apply standard actuarial techniques including GLMs and other multivariate approaches; contribute to model documentation and peer review protocols.\nCommunication: Present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nPerson Specification:\nRequired:\n3+ years of P&C actuarial pricing experience, preferably in small business commercial and/or personal lines.\n5+ CAS exams passed, with clear intent to pursue ACAS/FCAS; bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience).\nHands-on experience preparing and managing rate filings and handling DOI objections.\nSQL proficiency required; working knowledge of at least one of Python, R, or VBA.\nProject management and workstream ownership experience across multi-team initiatives; strong written and verbal communication and analytical skills.\nPreferred:\nDirect experience contributing to a US P&C new product launch or material rating plan overhaul.\nExperience with GLM-based rating plans or other multivariate pricing models; familiarity with SERFF and specialty commercial lines (Professional Liability, Management Liability, Cyber, GL, BOP).\nHiscox Values:\nAt Hiscox our spirit is in Challenging Convention and everything we do is guided by our Values.\nCourage: Dare to take a risk\nOwnership: Passionate, commercial and accountable\nIntegrity: Do the right thing, however hard\nConnected: Together, build something better\nHuman: Clear, fair and inclusive\nWhat Hiscox USA Offers:\nCompetitive salary and bonus (based on personal & company performance) \n401(k) with competitive company matching \nComprehensive health insurance, vision, dental and FSA plans (medical, limited purpose, and dependent care) \nCompany paid group term life, short- term disability and long-term disability coverage \n24 Paid time off days, 2 Hiscox Days, 10 paid holidays, and ability to purchase 5 PTO days \nPaid parental leave \n4 week paid sabbatical after every 5 years of service \nFinancial Adoption Assistance and Medical Travel Reimbursement Programs \nAnnual reimbursement up to $600 for health club membership or fees associated with any fitness program \nCompany paid subscription to Headspace to support employees’ mental health and wellbeing \nRecipient of 2024 Cigna’s Well-Being Award for having a best-in-class health and wellness program \nDynamic, creative and values-driven culture \nModern and open office spaces, complimentary drinks \nSalary Range: $110-$160k\nThe actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment\n**Please note that this position is hybrid and requires two (2) days in our office weekly**\nAbout Hiscox USA:\nHiscox USA underwrites small- to mid-market commercial risks through brokers, other insurers and distribution partners and directly to businesses. In 2026, gross written premiums for the segment will represent over $1bn. Circa 50% of the portfolio comprises small commercial business sold either online or through intermediaries, and the remaining 50% represents traditionally traded business intermediated through broking partners including Professions, Crisis Management and Specialist lines such as Media & Entertainment.
