As an Application Engineer, you will serve as a key technical specialist supporting protection, control, teleprotection and substation automation solutions across utility, transportation and industrial customers. You will play a critical role in delivering technical excellence throughout the project lifecycle, from application engineering and homologation activities to testing, commissioning and lifecycle support.\nThis role is ideal for a protection engineering professional who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working closely with customers and contributing to the adoption of advanced protection technologies across the region. You will collaborate with local and regional teams while supporting projects and customers throughout Malaysia and selected APAC markets.\nHow You'll Make an Impact\nAct as the technical focal point for protection and control solutions, providing application engineering support for transmission and distribution projects. \nDesign, configure, test and commission protection relay systems and associated protection schemes for power system applications. \nPerform protection coordination studies, relay settings calculations, fault analysis and technical evaluations in accordance with customer and utility requirements. \nSupport factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, troubleshooting, maintenance and lifecycle service activities. \nEngineer and support protection applications including line differential, distance, transformer, busbar, generator and feeder protection schemes. \nProvide technical expertise for teleprotection systems and communication-assisted protection solutions. \nSupport integration of protection systems with RTU, SCADA and substation automation platforms, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 communication protocols. \nLead and coordinate relay homologation and product approval activities, including compliance assessments, testing coordination, technical documentation and customer submissions. \nSupport product lifecycle management activities and advise customers on upgrades, migrations, obsolescence management and end-of-life strategies. \nMonitor developments in protection and automation technologies, evaluate new solutions and share technical knowledge across the organization.\nIdentify opportunities for engineering process improvements, automation initiatives and innovative ways of working. \nCollaborate closely with engineering, project management, commissioning, service and sales teams to ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction. \nSupport regional projects and technical activities across APAC when required, including travel for commissioning, troubleshooting and customer meetings. \nLive Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity by taking responsibility for your actions while caring for your colleagues and the business. \nYour Background\nBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or related discipline.\nMinimum 5 years of experience in protection and control engineering, power system automation or a related field.\nStrong knowledge of protection relays, protection schemes and power system applications within transmission and distribution networks.\nHands-on experience in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and technical support activities.\nExperience performing relay settings, protection coordination studies and fault analysis.\nFamiliarity with teleprotection systems and communication-assisted protection schemes is highly desirable.\nWorking knowledge of RTU, SCADA and substation automation systems.\nExposure to IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3 or related communication protocols.\nExperience supporting utilities, substations, rail, renewable energy or industrial power projects is preferred.\nStrong customer-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills.\nDemonstrated ability to learn new technologies, share technical knowledge and drive continuous improvement initiatives.\nWillingness to travel approximately 20% for site support, commissioning and regional project activities.\nMore About Us\nAt Hitachi Energy, we believe diversity and collaboration drive innovation.
