The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.\nKey accountabilities:\nReporting to the Team Leader, you will assist with data analysis, system monitoring, maintenance support, and technical reporting activities. You will work closely with experienced engineers, maintenance teams, and data specialists while gaining exposure to real-world rail signalling and operational environments.\nWhether you are a recent graduate, a final-year student, or an early-career professional looking to gain valuable industry experience, this role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your capabilities in data analytics, railway systems, and maintenance support.\nBe available to work on an ad-hoc basis with flexible hours and varied tasks.\nIdentify valuable data sources and assist in automating data collection processes.\nUndertake pre-processing of structured and unstructured data from operational and maintenance systems.\nAnalyse large volumes of data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.\nSupport the analysis of railway signalling, onboard, and maintenance system logs.\nWork closely with Log Analysis teams to support the development of long-term data platform strategies and architecture.\nDevelop and maintain data models, dashboards, and analytical tools to support operational decision-making.\nPresent findings using data visualisation techniques and reporting tools.\nAssist in the development of predictive maintenance and performance-monitoring solutions.\nKeep up to date with emerging technologies, data analytics methodologies, and industry best practices.\nParticipate in team meetings, workshops, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nFoster professional and collaborative relationships with team members and stakeholders.\nEnsure compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.\nRequired skills and knowledge:\nBachelor's degree (or currently completing a degree) in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.\nKnowledge of data analysis techniques and statistical methodologies.\nExperience with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, Python, or similar analytical tools.\nEffective written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.\nCommitment to continuous learning and professional development.\nInternship, vacation work, or practical experience in Data Analytics, Big Data platforms, Rail Systems, Signalling, Telecommunications, or related fields.\n0-2 years of experience in data analysis, system maintenance, technical support, or related activities.\nExperience with Power BI, Kibana, Grafana, Elasticsearch, SQL, Python, or similar analytics platforms.\nUnderstanding of railway signalling systems, onboard systems, telecommunications, or industrial control systems.\nExperience working with log analysis, monitoring, or operational performance reporting tools.\nKnowledge of cloud-based analytics platforms and data visualisation tools would be advantageous.\nAt Hitachi Rail, we know that a diverse business is a sustainable business.
