The opportunity
At Hitachi Energy Cooling Systems, we develop and manufacture highly reliable water-cooling solutions for power electronics and other applications that require high availability and performance. Our solutions help customers operate safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
As an Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in developing control system solutions, including both software and hardware. You will work with function design, process control, PLC/HMI programming, and industrial communication networks. This position combines technical expertise, problem-solving, project delivery, and collaboration across teams and customers.
You will contribute to customer projects, product development, internal equipment improvements, and component evaluations while supporting the growth of junior engineers.
How you´ll make an impact
- Design control system solutions based on customer requirements and project specifications.
- Select suitable automation components, hardware, software, and communication solutions.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including functional descriptions, test plans, work instructions, process maps, and quality documents.
- Program and configure PLC, DCS, RTU, IPC, HMI, and related automation systems.
- Design and configure industrial communication networks, including redundant network solutions and protocols such as IEC 61850, Modbus, Profinet, CANopen, and OPC UA.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and solution development for customers and service teams.
- Act as a technical automation expert for both internal and external stakeholders and support customer discussions.
- Participate in or lead testing activities, factory acceptance tests (FAT), supplier evaluations, commissioning activities, and site acceptance tests (SAT).
Your background
- Approximately 3 or more years of experience in industrial automation within sectors such as machine manufacturing, process industries, water treatment, or similar environments.
- Experience working in project-based environments from concept development through commissioning and project delivery.
- Ability to independently develop and troubleshoot applications using IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
- Good understanding of electrical engineering principles and industrial electrical system design.
- Experience with industrial communication networks, machine networks, and redundancy concepts such as S2, R1, and R2.
- Knowledge of machinery safety standards and regulations, including Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and IEC 61439.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and work effectively across teams.
- Great communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
