And that’s where you come in.\nJob Description:\nWe currently have an opening in our Engineering team for a Design Engineer. This role will be primarily working in our ongoing projects to maintain and renew London Underground’s operational network, focusing on telecoms and network solutions.\nAs a Design Engineer, you will design solutions that meet the needs of our clients and users within the rail domain. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design and implement solutions, and ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our products, solutions and services.\nYou will be responsible for the design production, design estimates, design programs and design work packages for bids, projects and services to contract requirements, standards, budget, and on-time delivery. You will undertake the role of Designer as identified in the CDM regulations, with particular attention to design risks, ensuring that safety risks are designed out or deemed as low as reasonably practicable.\nThis is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from our Waterloo office site.\nKey Responsibilities\nYour responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:\nCollaborate with all stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into designs.\nDesign solutions using industry best practice, processes and tools.\nProduce designs that are buildable and maintainable that meet customer requirements and relevant standards and legislation.\nIdentify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and other issues.\nWork collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.\nUnderstand and follow the project delivery processes, methodologies, and use the defined tools as set out in the Hitachi Rail Management System and the project specific Engineering Management Plans.\nEscalate issues to the Senior Design Engineer where necessary.\nProvide status reports to the Senior Design Engineer\nTechnical Skills and Experience\nProven capabilities in some or all of the following areas:IP/MPLSLayers: Layer-2 VPN Circuit emulation [C-pipe. CESoPSN, SATOP], Layer-2 VPN-Ethernet [E-Piper, VPLS, H-VPLS], Layer-3 VPN [VPRN, IES].\nAlternative MPLS options: Flat IS-IS, LDP, Segment Routing (w/wo PCE), MPLS-TP, SD-WAN, SASE.\n\nDWDMOptical Fundamentals: Wavelength multiplexing, fibre impairments, power budgeting.\nSystem Design: Node architecture, amplifiers, OADM. ROADMs, IP over DWDM.\n\nMulti-Service NetworksService Types: Voice, video, IoT, VPN services.\nNokia Service Platform (NSP): Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) , Software Defined Networking (SDN).\n\nRadio LTEFundamentals: EPC, RAN basics, spectrum planning\n\nStrong ability to use design tools to produce complex designs.\nCapable of managing a design through a defined design process.\nWorking knowledge of project plans.\nAbility to produce metrics as part of Quality assurance & control.\nProven record of working in a telecoms engineering environment.\nFully understands the engineering lifecycle and its associated processes.\nKnowledgeable about CDM regulations.\nCan manage configuration control.\nAppreciation of requirements to work effectively in an engineering environment and understanding of engineering delivery methodologies.\nHuman Skills\nStay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and industry best practices, and apply them to enhance our solutions\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team\nExcellent stakeholder management\nProven problem-solving ability, trade-off skills and attention to detail\nWhat to expect\nWe aim to complete a one-stage interview process, which will be held at the Waterloo office.
