And that’s where you come in.\nJob Description:\nYour new role\nThe Maintenance development Engineer is responsible for the design and development of Train Maintenance Plans for multiple Hitachi Rail fleets by employing maintenance improvement techniques, applying optimisation strategies and introducing new technologies. You will manage projects to deliver new fleets, reduce maintenance costs and increase operational capability of existing fleets.\nThis role can be based from London, Doncaster or Edinburgh.\n\nWhat you'll be doing\nDemonstrate a high level of Maintenance Development, Design Review and Optimisation Engineering knowledge to support the business.\nLead project integration of new and existing Rolling Stock systems to improve the RAMS of Hitachi fleets.\nWrite, review and approve maintenance documentation manuals for new Rolling Stock to deliver key milestones.\nWrite, review, approve and technically justify Train Maintenance Plans to a standard that meets safety standards, Railway compliance and train performance criteria.\nWrite, review, approve and technically justify Overhaul Instructions to determine the scope of work required for the key components installed on Hitachi fleets.\nWrite, review and approve Condition Assessment Plans to quantify and validate the maintenance interval to maintain components to a standard that meets safety and performance criteria.\nWrite Technical Bulletins and Engineering Briefs as required to support the RAMS of Hitachi fleets.\nComplete Risk Assessments to ensure product safety is maintained when validating and optimising maintenance activities, refining maintenance practices.\nLead projects to validate and independently certify Train Maintenance Plans working with external third parties.\nLead Maintenance Document Engineering Change and seek approval from key stakeholders (Operator, Owner)\nQuantify cost benefit analysis to support changes to maintenance design. Provide Life Cycle Costs (LCC) data.\nSeek and validate new technologies to increase train operational capability with the use of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) to reduce maintenance downtime and cost.\nData gather and analyse trends to determine duty cycles of key components to optimise both scheduled maintenance and overhaul intervals.\nTake part and where necessary, facilitate RCM development workshops.\nLiaise with the bids and tender team where required and provide input into the full life Maintenance Plan for new fleets.\nCollaborate and develop a good relationship internally with the Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Project Managers and the Commercial/Leadership teams.\nDevelop and maintain a good working relationship with external suppliers, asset owners and operators to deliver key projects and maintenance plans.\nWrite and develop cross functional and departmental procedures/policies to support the progression of the business\nAbout you\nSound knowledge of, and compliance to, Railway standards and regulations.\nRolling Stock Operational experience essential.\nExtensive engineering experience at a similar level with large multi-discipline projects.\nExtensive knowledge of operational/maintenance engineering practices.\nProven ability to work under pressure and to deliver complex projects on time.\nExtensive experience in the management of stakeholders and project governance.\nExtensive knowledge of Rolling Stock Engineering and Maintenance Practices.\nWhat we offer\nWe value the importance of all of our employees, if you would like to join our fantastic organisation you could be entitled to:\nCompetitive salary\nAnnual Performance bonus paid on discretionary basis.\n25 days holiday\nPension scheme with contributions up to 9%\nPrivate medical insurance\nPersonal Accident insurance\nGroup Income protection\nGroup Life Insurance\nEmployee Assistance Programme\nWe also offer additional perks for you to choose from within a flexible plan that will meet your specific needs and lifestyle.\nClosing date for applications is 1st November 2026.\nThank you for your interest in Hitachi Rail.
