And that’s where you come in.\nJob Description:\nOur Opportunity\nAs a Senior Design Engineer, you are an integral member of the design team assuring compliance to a defined design process and ensuring that the design conforms to client requirements including quoted standards and specifications.\nYou will be responsible for the management of design production, design estimates, design programs and design work packages for bids, projects and services to contract requirements, standards, budget, and on-time delivery.\nTake on the position of Designer as identified in the CDM regulations, with particular attention to design risks, ensuring that safety risks are designed out or deemed “as low as reasonably practicable”. You will be required to provide support to junior team members through the application of mentoring and coaching.\nThis is a hybrid role working a minimum of two days per week from our Cheadle office site.\nKey Responsibilities:\nYour responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:\nCollaborate with project teams, engineering delivery, technical solutions managers, and other stakeholders to grasp project needs and convert them into technical specifications.\nDesign and develop solutions using industry best practice. Engage with supply chain to develop understanding of product offerings that can be applied to our solutions.\nProduce designs that are buildable and maintainable that meet customer requirements and relevant standards and legislation.\nIdentify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks and other design issues.\nTroubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.\nProvide independent peer review, checking and approval of designs.\nMentor junior engineers, providing guidance on design principles, engineering techniques, and best practices.\nWork collaboratively with other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the project.\nUnderstand and follow the project delivery processes, methodologies and use the defined tools as set out in the SRS Management System and the project specific Engineering Management Plans.\nKeep up-to-date with the latest technologies, tools, and trends in Hitachi Rail and 3rd party COTS product developments.\nSupport Work Package Managers with timely provision of status, accurate measurement of progress and forecasting of remaining work and by identifying change, variation, risk and opportunity to the work package manager wherever the scope of works is impacted.\nTechnical Skills and Experience\nPossesses a strong ability to use design tools to produce complex designs.\nCapable of managing a design through a defined design process.\nAble to produce metrics as part of Quality Assurance & control.\nWorking knowledge of project plans.\nKnowledgeable in Engineering Safety Management.\nA proven record of working in a rail SCADA & telecoms engineering environment for control panel & installation design\nFully understands the engineering lifecycle and its associated processes.\nKnowledgeable about CDM regulations.\nExperienced in CAD and has a working knowledge of ProjectWise.\nExperienced in adhering to SIL-2 standards and designing according to specified SRACs.\nHas demonstrated design capabilities to at least a supervisor level for one skill set and practitioner level for one or more key skill as captured and managed via the competency and capability management system.\nCan maintain configuration control of design baselines\nHuman Skills\nMentor junior engineers, providing guidance on systems design principles, engineering techniques, and best practices\nStay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and industry best practices, and apply them to enhance our solutions\nExcellent communication skills in all forms and at all levels\nStrong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team\nExcellent stakeholder management\nExcellent problem-solving ability, trade-off skills and attention to detail\nWhat to expect\nWe aim to complete a one-stage interview process, which will be held at the office.
