Candidates must live in the area, be willing to relocate, or be able to commute to the project site five days per week.\nThe HITT Safety Manager is responsible for the safety performance and safety development of their assigned business units and direct reports. This individual serves as a safety resource at the project, business unit, and corporate levels, regularly assessing safety needs and utilizing assigned resources to meet those needs. This individual also participates in developing HITT’s corporate safety program and safety culture.\nResponsibilities\nManage direct report workloads based on project volume, project needs, and additional department responsibilities, and make staffing recommendations accordingly\nConduct regular check-ins and yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports\nAssess training and learning needs for direct reports\nTrain and support Safety Department members as needed\nReview career goals with team members and provide feedback on career development\nParticipate in the retention and recruiting of HITT Safety Department team members\nManage outside consultant project needs and performance\nDetermine and fulfill the safety needs of multiple projects and/or business units\nEvaluate the inspection performance of department members and project team members\nConduct onsite safety inspections independently using the Predictive Solutions System\nEvaluate hazard and incident data to identify trends and focus on specific project and corporate safety needs\nSet safety inspection criteria and expectations and evaluate performance\nMentor Operations/Site Operations in the safety inspection process\nEvaluate project compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety regulations and procedures\nIdentify and address safety needs and challenges associated with future project work\nEvaluate and address the safety performance of subcontractors working on HITT projects\nReview project safety inspections with Site Operations\nRegularly analyze inspection and incident data to identify business unit safety trends and recommend corrective actions\nDistribute project safety inspections to key project team members and subcontractors\nDistribute open issue summaries and evaluations for projects and business units\nResearch and evaluate current and future OSHA regulations to address project needs\nIndependently lead OSHA or third-party safety inspections\nIndependently lead crisis or accident/incident response and investigations\nDevelop, select, and deliver safety toolbox meetings and project safety orientations\nEvaluate and coach others on toolbox meeting and orientation delivery\nEnforce safety requirements with HITT and subcontractor personnel\nEvaluate project safety policies for effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities\nDeliver “Just In Time” onsite safety training\nIndependently review and develop Job Hazard Analyses for common and complex tasks\nAssist with safety planning during preconstruction\nLead select subcontractor safety preconstruction meetings\nIdentify and address special needs for Site-Specific Safety Plans\nParticipate in project safety and subcontractor meetings as needed\nDevelop project safety orientations that address special client or site requirements\nElevate safety concerns appropriately\nAudit project safety signage and provide recommendations\nAudit and review project documentation requirements and implement improvements as needed\nIndependently research and resolve safety-related issues\nIndependently identify or select specialized safety and protective equipment for projects\nCollaborate with project teams to execute project-wide safety stand-downs\nIdentify and arrange specific safety training to meet project or business unit needs\nServe as a technical resource to Safety Department members and Site Operations\nEvaluate inspection processes and identify improvement opportunities\nDevelop and/or lead the execution of department and corporate-level goals\nDevelop business unit safety goals\nDevelop and conduct in-house safety training\nIdentify corporate safety and protective equipment needs\nResearch and trial new safety-related products\nPrepare monthly safety summaries for assigned business units\nAct as the primary point of contact for processes such as Predictive Solutions or Toolbox Talks within the Safety Department\nParticipate in HITT corporate initiatives and/or committees outside of safety\nCreate and maintain positive working relationships with HITT project teams and subcontractors\nRespond to safety concerns from clients, tenants, or impacted members of the public\nCollaborate with other members of the corporate Risk Management Team as needed\nParticipate in safety and/or construction professional organization meetings\nQualifications\n Ability to work onsite in Berwick, PA, five days per week is required. Candidates must live locally, relocate to the area, or maintain a reliable commute that supports this schedule\nBachelor’s degree in safety or a related field preferred\nCHST, CSP, or equivalent professional safety designation\nFirst Aid/CPR certification\nOSHA 30-Hour certification for construction; OSHA 500 preferred\nDegree and five years of experience, or eight or more years of construction safety experience; other professional experience or skills may serve as a substitute\nComprehensive understanding of high-hazard technical areas, including cranes, fall protection, scaffolding, excavation, and electrical work\nStrong written and verbal communication skills\nAbility to assess and prioritize multiple business unit needs, tasks, projects, and demands\nAbility to handle confidential information\nAbility to adapt to flexible and changing schedules\nStrong analytical and research skills to define and solve problems\nAbility to work independently\nWillingness to respond to emergency or crisis conditions\nAbility to work under various environmental and site conditions\nAbility to navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven floors or ground conditions\nIn accordance with Virginia Senate Bill 215 (SB 215), the base salary range for this position is:\n$95,000.00 - $140,000.00\nCompensation in other cities and states may vary.
