Role Overview
The Day Ops Manager is a critical role at our depots. As the Day Ops Manager, you are accountable for site performance during your shift-end-to-end across under-the-roof and on-the-road operations.
For on-the-road, you will manage and lead driver set-off in the morning while proactively supporting drivers and their service levels throughout the day. In the depot, you will oversee any daytime under-the-roof activities and bridges required from the previous day/week, as well as forward labour planning.
You will lead a team of Coordinators and you will need to have the highest standards of professionalism and discipline, leading by example in every moment. This is an on-site role embedded in the day-to-day operations. The shifts for this role are a 4 days on, 3 days off shift pattern which will require you to work one day on the weekend. Our Operations team is organised into roles at different levels: this is a level 5 role reporting into the site leader.
What you’ll be doing
Lead shift during rotation - managing Shift Managers, Coordinators, Fleet Specialist - to deliver exceptional OTR & UTR day-time performance.
Receive handover from Night Manager, deliver handover to mid-Shift Manager.
Be the GM’s primary support & deliver strong handovers
Lead & inspire, & develop and performance manage, team on OM’s shift rotation.
OTR:
DSP management - DSP Capacity, Account management relationships, and performance management.
HIVED Partner Driver Capacity and pool management (Plan vs Actual).
HIVED Partner Driver service level management
Legal compliance (hours on road, breaks, safety checks).
UTR:
Labour planning for week-ahead & night.
Managing day activities, e.g. sortation as relevant, preparation for sortation.
Succession planning for week ahead + 6-week glance for their side of the week, & peaks.
Drives continuous improvement initiatives & Develop standards and operating procedures.
What you’ll be accountable for
All on-road activities, including driver capacity, driver compliance, overall site performance (SLA, Delivery Success).
All in-depot day-to-day and planning activities including people (labour pool, engagement, leadership succession planning), safety (auditing and near miss/incident reporting), quality (SLA, set-off/on-time dispatch), and cost (labour planning D+1/W+1/TPH).
What we’re looking for
4-8 years’ experience leading fast-paced OTR / dispatch / last-mile operations.
Strong command of driver operations, route execution, and dispatch accuracy.
Hands-on shift leadership with ability to manage 30-100+ staff via supervisors. Ability to lead and coach team.
High urgency, strong communication, strong escalation habits.
Comfortable solving real-time operational pressure during peak windows.
Excellent cross-functional stakeholder management skills.
