The primary role of the Accounting Specialist is to support the Finance staff in managing day to day financial transactions, budgeting and reporting.\nResponsibilities:\nThe Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing accounting support for Hamilton-Madison House’s government contracts, including budgets, financial reporting, preparing vouchers and justifying expenses for drawdowns\nThe Accountant will also assist with the monthly close process, financial reporting, collaborate with colleagues of the Finance Department regularly, pitch-in for colleagues as needed, and provide excellent support to staff across the organization.\nThis role reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and requires a high level of accountability and responsibility.\nProcess HMH bi-weekly payroll and other payroll related duties as assigned by the CFO\nResponsible for recording and processing Accounts Receivable, daily banking transactions\nAssist with updating Accounts Payable, cut checks and issue other payments, as necessary\nAssist with monthly closing of the books and with general entry\nAssist with preparation of financial statements (monthly, quarterly and annual) and supporting schedules\nAssist with the preparation of financial reports for submission to funding sources as needed\nSupport financial analysis and compliance with internal policies and procedures consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”).\nThis role requires great attention to detail, a strong ability to multi-task and work independently, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.\nKeep current knowledge of GAAP, federal and NY state policies, directives, and accounting changes\nMinimum Qualifications:\n2-3 years of relevant work experience, preferably within the finance department of a nonprofit organization\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance\nExcellent financial analysis skills\nProficiency with Microsoft Office applications; advanced Excel skills are required\nHighly organized and detail oriented; able to plan, manage and successfully complete multiple concurrent projects with deadlines.\nExcellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills;
