For more information, visit www.hmhco.com\nPosition Overview\nWe are seeking an experienced Senior UX Designer to independently lead complex UX problems from framing through delivery. In this role, you will connect user evidence, U.S. K-12 education context, product strategy, and technical constraints to create high-quality, accessible experiences. You will own complex features and end-to-end workflows, determine the right design approach, explore multiple solutions, and make thoughtful tradeoffs as work moves from discovery through implementation.\nAs a senior individual contributor, you will operate with significant autonomy while collaborating across disciplines, mentoring other designers, and contributing to the continued evolution of our UX practice.\nKey Responsibilities\nLead Complex UX Work\nIndependently own complex features and end-to-end workflows from problem framing through implementation.\nSynthesize user evidence, product strategy, business context, and technical constraints to identify root problems and define experience direction.\nApply an understanding of U.S. K-12 education and the needs of educators, students, and administrators to design decisions.\nExplore multiple solution paths, communicate tradeoffs, and connect tactical decisions to the broader product ecosystem.\nPartner with UX Research and use qualitative and quantitative evidence to challenge assumptions, reduce risk, and improve decisions.\n\nDeliver High-Quality Design\nDesign intuitive workflows that reduce friction and account for system states, permissions, errors, edge cases, and varying user needs.\nCreate effective information architecture, interaction models, wireframes, prototypes, and high-quality UI appropriate to the problem.\nUse prototypes strategically to explore ideas, align teams, validate solutions, and reduce implementation risk.\nChampion accessible and inclusive design practices aligned with WCAG and established HMH standards.\nWork effectively within established design systems, identifying when to reuse, adapt, or contribute new scalable patterns.\nPartner closely with Engineering to communicate design intent and maintain quality through implementation.\n\nCollaborate and Influence\nBuild trusted partnerships with Product, Engineering, Research, Curriculum, Data, and other stakeholders.\nClarify goals, uncover assumptions, reconcile competing inputs, and advocate for user needs using evidence and clear design rationale.\nFacilitate workshops, critiques, and decision-making conversations that move teams through ambiguity.\nCommunicate complex design concepts, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.\nCollaborate effectively across distributed teams, cultures, disciplines, and time zones.\n\nDrive Outcomes and Grow the Practice\nDrive work through successful delivery while managing dependencies, changing requirements, and competing constraints.\nMaintain a high bar for quality while focusing on meaningful user and product outcomes.\nUse approved AI and emerging design tools thoughtfully to accelerate exploration, synthesis, prototyping, and production while applying appropriate human judgment.\nProvide thoughtful feedback and mentorship to other designers and contribute to shared\nCompensation\nSalary Range: $90,000 - $109,000\nThe Information Technology organization is transforming to realize our mission: Become a leader in HMH’s digital transformation, and as a strategic partner, innovate and deliver highest value, competitive advantage solutions across all corporate and business functions.
