This role ensures technical accuracy, consistency, and alignment with project requirements, design intent, and applicable codes and standards.\n\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nLeadership\nReview architectural drawings and project information to write and edit project specifications in accordance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, HOK standards, technical conditions, and applicable codes, laws, rules, and regulations.\nInterpret project design and delivery requirements, translating this information into detailed materials, methods, equipment, installation procedures, and certification testing requirements needed to procure and construct building components. \nUnderstand how projects are organized into multiple bid packages and how these packages make up the full project scope. \nPrepare and review procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01 General Requirements, while aligning owner-provided contract forms and processes with HOK standards .\nReview sustainability goals and provide informed guidance on material selection to support LEED and other certifications. \nProvide resources for project teams to research products and review RFI submittals. \nProvide quality management reviews and offer technical expertise throughout design development and construction documentation phases. \nCollaborate closely with the firmwide specifications team to ensure consistency, knowledge sharing, and best practices. \nBuild and maintain strong relationships with local and national vendors and serve as a resource connecting project teams with product representatives.\nContribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the firm's Master Specifications, including project-type-specific content, regional conditions, and sustainable content. \nSupport integration of specifications into digital project deliver tools, including HOK's Project Quality Management initiatives and Smartsheet collaboration workflows.\nTake personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices.\nFoster a culture of external and internal client service.\nAct as a risk management resource to other project leaders.\n\n Teamwork\nAssist project managers with review and coordination of project agreements relative to professional service and general condition issues. \nAssist project architects and project designers with material and system constructability analysis.\nAssist project architects with shop drawing and product substitution review. \nCoordinate and review consultant technical specifications for conformance with HOK standards. \nMay conduct internal specifications training.\nParticipate in developing and improving HOK document standards and best practice procedures. \nCollaborate with HOK Specification Writers in other offices on regular calls and with workload sharing.\n\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered. \nMinimum 10 years in architectural practice, including at least 3 years of direct experience in specification writing/development\nExperience with complex, large-scale, multi-phase projects preferred.\nRegistered Architect with current license preferred; NCARB certification desirable.\nLEED accreditation or LEED Green Associate preferred. \nCSI Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) or higher certification preferred.\nExperience with design-build project delivery is a plus.\n\nSKILLS & COMPETENCIES:\nStrong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, design trends, products, construction methodology, building systems, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness. \nStrong knowledge of construction procedures and schedules.\nStrong knowledge of building envelope components, interior plans, and material requirements for all building and facility types.
