The Staff Engineer will partner closely with the CTO and senior engineering leaders to define architectural direction, establish integration patterns and standards, and deliver production-grade systems that safely support future growth and change.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nDesign, build, and own a fault-tolerant integration platform that enables asynchronous communication and loose coupling across enterprise systems.\nEstablish and maintain core infrastructure that allows applications and components to be incrementally modernized or replaced without disrupting the broader ecosystem.\nDevelop and steward shared services and libraries that make reliability, observability, and resilience default capabilities across all platforms.\nDefine and enforce clear system boundaries and interface contracts that support long-lived platforms, safe evolution, and continuous change\nEDUCATION\nBachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related degree.\nEXPERIENCE\n5+ years experience working in a software development capacity. Experience in the medical field - terminology and processes. Experience with HIPAA Security.\nKNOWLEDGE\nDeep experience building and operating distributed systems in production\nStrong proficiency in Elixir (or deep expertise in another functional or concurrent language with the ability to ramp quickly)\nExpertise with asynchronous messaging, event-driven architectures, and system integration patterns\nStrong understanding of fault tolerance, concurrency, and state management\nExperience designing systems intended to be used by other engineering teams as a platform\nComfort working in environments with legacy systems, imperfect data, and evolving requirements\nProven ability to reason about complex systems and make pragmatic tradeoffs\nSKILLS\nExperience with BEAM-based systems (Elixir/Erlang/OTP) at scale\nFamiliarity with healthcare, regulated environments, or other high-reliability domains\nExperience designing migration and strangler patterns for large systems\nBackground in observability tooling and production incident response\nTrack record of influencing architecture without relying on formal authority\nABILITIES\nArchitectural Thinking - Ability to design scalable, high-performing, and maintainable software solutions.\nLeadership & Mentorship - Strong ability to mentor and guide development teams, fostering technical growth and collaboration.\nStrategic Problem-Solving - Exceptional analytical skills to assess challenges and propose innovative technical solutions.\nEffective Communication - Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.\nProject & Time Management - Skill in managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and delivering high-quality solutions within deadlines.\nCollaboration & Stakeholder Management - Ability to work effectively with business leaders, technical teams, and external partners.\nContinuous Learning Mindset - Passion for staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices\nENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS\nNormal office environment.
