Check out our Intro to Hex video and employee handbook to learn more about what it’s like to work at Hex.\nAbout the role\nWe are looking for a AI Engineer Intern to join us this summer and help build the next generation of AI-powered data tooling at Hex.\nOur mission is to empower users to understand and work with data using natural language and agentic AI capabilities. As an intern, you’ll contribute directly to product and research that sits at the core of how data teams explore, analyze, and collaborate. While prior AI research experience is desired, we’re also looking for curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to dive into fast-evolving technology.\nThis is an opportunity to learn from experienced engineers, ship real features to production, and contribute meaningfully to one of the most exciting technical spaces of our time.\nWhat you will do:\nAs an AI Engineer Intern, you will work across the entire research process, identifying problems, designing experiments, evaluating results, and implementing in production. Throughout this process, you will partner closely with other AI Engineers, software engineers, PMs, internal partners, and customers.\nBuild run real research experiments to solve business problems, making use of modern and classical AI/ML techniques, tackling problems such as post-training, continuous learning, and agent self-improvement\n\nCollaborate with product engineers to deliver new AI-powered capabilities to end users\n\nContribute to research infrastructure including evals, production monitoring, training pipelines, and more\n\nSolve practical engineering challenges, such as performance optimizations, data modeling, and API design\n\nParticipate in the full development lifecycle, from ideation and design to implementation, testing, and launch.\n\nAbout you\nYou are pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with plans to graduate in December 2027 or sometime in 2028\n\nYou have AI research, applied AI, or ML experience, ideally having worked on substantive generative AI or transformer-based projects\n\nYou have an interest in how you can build delightful product experiences backed by cutting edge technology, and an appetite for pushing the boundaries of what agents can accomplish\n\nYou care about users and enjoy thinking about how technical systems translate into polished, intuitive experiences.\n\nYou are curious, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift as new technology emerges.\n\nYou enjoy collaborating with others, asking questions, and learning from more senior engineers.\n\nThe compensation for this role is $11,000 a month + a housing stipend.\nIn addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.\nThe salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to.
