Will you be one of them?\nYou will be responsible to:\nJob Purpose\nThe Design Engineering Manager is responsible for leading all design engineering activities, from early process design through detailed engineering, ensuring projects are technically sound, compliant with GMP and EHS requirements, cost-effective, and ready for efficient execution. This role bridges process understanding and engineering discipline coordination, guaranteeing that project designs are fit for purpose, constructible, and aligned with business and operational needs.\nKey Responsibilities\n1. Process & Conceptual Design\nProcess flow diagrams (PFDs), mass and energy balances.\nProcess descriptions and basis of design.\nPreliminary equipment sizing and technology selection.\nChallenge and validate process requirements with Production, MSAT, QA, and EHS.\nTranslate operational needs into robust engineering concepts.\nEnsure alignment between process intent and downstream detailed design.\n2. Detailed Design Management\nP&IDs\nEquipment specifications and data sheets\nLayouts and 3D models\nUtility systems design\nMechanical, piping, electrical, automation, and HVAC interfaces\nEnsure consistency between disciplines and elimination of design conflicts.\nGuarantee constructability, maintainability, and operability are embedded in the design.\n3. Compliance & Standards\nGMP requirements\nLocal and international codes and standards\nCompany engineering standards and best practices\nEHS and process safety requirements (ATEX, pressure systems, chemical safety, etc.)\nLead and support HAZOP, HAZID, and design safety reviews.\nEnsure data integrity and validation readiness are considered from design phase.\n4. Project Integration\nAct as the design authority within the project organization.\nInterface with Project Managers to ensure:Design deliverables are issued on time.\nScope, cost, and schedule are aligned with project constraints.\n\nSupport CAPEX estimation and technical scope definition.\nParticipate in contractor and vendor technical evaluations.\n5. External Engineering & Contractor Management\nManage and technically supervise:External engineering companies.\nOEMs and package suppliers.\n\nReview and approve contractor design deliverables.\nEnsure consistency of quality and standards across all external design partners.\n6. Change Management & Design Control\nImplement strong design control processes:Versioning, approvals, and change tracking.\nManagement of technical deviations and change requests.\n\nEnsure traceability from process requirements to final as-built documentation.\n7. Team Leadership\nLead and develop the design engineering team, typically including Process engineers, Mechanical and piping engineers,Possibly automation or utilities specialists.\nDefine priorities, allocate workload, and build technical capability.\nAct as technical mentor and reference point for complex design decisions.\n8. Continuous Improvement\nImprove internal design workflows, templates, and standards.\nIncrease efficiency and quality of engineering deliverables.\nPromote standardization and modular design where possible.\nWe are looking to recruit a Candidate:\nQualifications & Experience\nEducation: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.\nExperience:\n10+ years in industrial engineering, preferably in Pharmaceutical, fine chemicals, or CDMO environment.\nProcess design and P&ID development.\nEquipment specification and system design.\nMulti-discipline coordination.\nProven experience leading engineering teams and external contractors.\nTechnical Skills\nChemical process engineering.\nUtilities and facility systems.\nGMP facility design.\nProcess safety and risk analysis.\n3D design tools.\nEngineering document management systems.\nSAP or similar asset/project systems (nice to have).\nLeadership & Behavioral Competencies\nStrong technical authority with pragmatic mindset.\nAbility to challenge requirements constructively.\nStructured, disciplined, and detail-oriented.\nExcellent communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nHigh ownership of design quality and integrity.\nComfortable operating between strategy and hands-on technical review.\nHovione is a proud Equal Opportunity Employer\nInclusion and diversity are key to us.
