Let's go far, together.\nHear directly from our employees, and leaders about their unique journeys at Helmerich and Payne.\nLocation: Tulsa, OK\nWork Type: Onsite\n#LI-Onsite\nAt a Glance:\nThe Payroll Accountant - Contractor is primarily responsible for evaluating records of present and past operations, trends and costs, and provide budgetary analysis of expenditures.\nWhat you will do: \nPrepares, reviews, and analyzes monthly journal entries and reports. \nUpdates payroll files and general ledger.\nPrepares and files tax and regulatory reports.\nPrepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.\nReviews weekly and/or monthly payroll ledger, researches exception items, and take corrective action.\nReviews all tax and unemployment liability accounts to the general ledger and investigates variances.\nPrepares quarterly and annual payroll tax reporting and researches and resolves payroll/tax reporting issues.\nEnsures all payroll accounting procedures are in line with governmental laws and policies.\nEnsures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.\nProvides records and documentation to internal and external auditors.\nAnalyzes payroll data to identify trends, exceptions, and anomalies.\nRecommends improvements to processes, controls, and procedures.\nSupports the payroll accounting team as needed, including overseeing payroll tax registration and reconciliations, periodic reporting, and other tasks.\nParticipates in departmental projects and priorities as needed. Supports development and distribution of project status reports, dashboards, meeting minutes, action item logs, etc. to project stakeholders.\nActs as a subject matter expert (“SME”) and mentor for less experienced Payroll employees.\nCommunicates Company commitment and supports the company’s anti-corruption, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and any other anti-corruption compliance programs throughout the assigned operational areas.\nDemonstrates the H&P Company values: Actively C.A.R.E., Service Attitude, Innovative Spirit, Teamwork and Do the Right Thing.\nWhat you need:\nBachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.\n5+ years of accounting experience.\nSolid understanding of payroll policies and procedures as well as wage and hour laws.\nSolid understanding of proper taxation of employer paid benefits.\nProficient user of payroll information technology systems. \nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills.\nStrong research and trend analysis skills.\nExcellent PC-based software application skills: Excel, Word, etc.\nAbility to work independently.\nAbility to organize and plan multiple activities which require close attention to detail.\nProcess-driven and excellent attention to detail.\nStrong work ethic and collaborative team player.\nAble to handle highly confidential information as strict confidentiality is a must.\nExcellent organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.\nAble to adhere to tight deadlines.\nDemonstrated willingness and ability to make timely and informed recommendations and decisions.\nNot a must, but a plus\nExperience with Workday, Oracle, and Kronos a plus.\nExperience in a multi-state and international payroll environment preferred. \nCPP or CPA certification preferred but not required.\nThe job level and associated compensation for this position will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and alignment with the role’s requirements.
