The Analyst I will contribute to that mission by applying quantitative methods, developing reliable analytical products, and communicating findings that help healthcare decisionmakers better understand performance and identify opportunities for improvement.\nDescription\nThe Analyst I position is a key contributor to cutting-edge analytic work that spans the broad spectrum of healthcare data projects at HSAG. Driven by intellectual curiosity and a passion for healthcare quality, the Analyst I position supports innovative analytic plans that are intended to provide healthcare decision and policy makers with the necessary information to transform healthcare. HSAG analysts within the Data Science & Advanced Analytics division assist in designing a wide array of analytic studies and participate in all phases of the research design process.\nAnalysts may work with a wide array of data to facilitate data exploration, including (but not limited to) the following data types:\nsurvey\ncase review\nmedical and prescription drug claims and encounters\neligibility\ndemographic\nclinical\nelectronic health record\nregistry\nvital statistics\noperational\nDetails regarding potential project assignments and key sources of data will be discussed with candidates during the interview process.\nEssential Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities\nThe Analyst I is expected to perform the following responsibilities with appropriate guidance and oversight:\nAnalytical and Technical Responsibilities\nServe as an engaged and collaborative member of HSAG’s Data Science & Advanced Analytics division.\nDevelop an understanding of common healthcare data sources, structures, terminology, uses, and limitations.\nApply established statistical, epidemiological, and analytical methods to address defined project questions under the guidance of senior staff.\nWrite, test, and maintain accurate and efficient statistical programming code.\nUse SAS, Python, and other approved analytical tools to access, combine, transform, analyze, and summarize data under the direction of senior staff.\nWork with relational databases and use structured query methods to retrieve and evaluate data.\nPrepare analysis-ready datasets by cleaning, recoding, joining, aggregating, and restructuring source data.\nConduct descriptive analyses and support the development of appropriate statistical models.\nImplement approved analysis plans, programming specifications, and data validation procedures.\nPerform quality-control reviews, including record counts, frequency reviews, reasonableness checks, reconciliation activities, and independent verification of analytical results.\nInvestigate proactively unexpected findings, data anomalies, and discrepancies, and communicate concerns to senior project staff.\nCross-reference results against source documentation, technical specifications, prior reporting periods, or independently generated outputs.\nProduce accurate tables, charts, figures, data files, summaries, and other analytical deliverables.\nMaintain clear and reproducible documentation of data sources, programming logic, assumptions, analytical methods, and quality-control activities.\nFollow applicable organizational requirements for data privacy, security, confidentiality, and appropriate use of healthcare information.\nProject and Team Responsibilities\nComplete assigned analytical tasks accurately and within established project timelines.\nManage multiple assignments by organizing work, monitoring deadlines, and communicating status to project leadership.\nParticipate actively in project meetings, technical discussions, peer reviews, training sessions, and division activities.\nCollaborate effectively with other analysts, data scientists, project managers, clinicians, researchers, and other internal and external partners.\nSeek clarification when project requirements, source data, specifications, or expected outputs are unclear.\nIncorporate feedback from senior staff and demonstrate continuous improvement in technical and professional performance.\nIdentify potential risks to analytical quality, schedules, or deliverables and communicate them promptly to the appropriate team member.\nContribute to the development and refinement of standardized processes, reusable programming, documentation, and analytical tools.\nCommunication and Professional Responsibilities\nTranslate analytical results into clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate findings.\nAssist in preparing technical reports, presentations, written summaries, and customer deliverables.\nPresent analytical methods and findings to internal teams and, when appropriate, customers or other stakeholders.\nExplain technical information clearly to individuals with varying levels of analytical expertise.\nDemonstrate professionalism, responsiveness, dependability, and sound judgment in interactions with colleagues and customers.\nProtect confidential, proprietary, and sensitive information.\nRepresent HSAG professionally and consistently in all work-related interactions.\nEducation and/or Experience\nBachelor’s degree in a quantitative, analytical, public health, health services research, or related discipline. Relevant disciplines may include statistics, mathematics, economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, computer science, health informatics, public policy, or a closely related field.\nCompletion of college-level coursework in statistics and other quantitative or analytical methods.\nAcademic, internship, research, or professional experience using data to answer defined questions, evaluate patterns, or produce analytical findings.\nPreferred\nMaster’s degree in a quantitative, analytical, public health, or healthcare-related discipline.\nExperience working with healthcare, public health, administrative, clinical, survey, or research data.\nExperience contributing to analytical projects in an academic, government, healthcare, consulting, or research environment.\nExperience preparing analytical results for technical and nontechnical audiences.\nEquivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered, consistent with organizational requirements.\nOther Qualifications\nTechnical Qualifications\nFoundational knowledge of statistical concepts and quantitative research methods.\nKnowledge of statistical programming in at least one language or analytical environment, such as SAS, SQL, R, or Python.\nAbility and willingness to develop proficiency in SAS programming.\nExperience working with relational databases or structured datasets.\nAbility to review, clean, manipulate, analyze, and validate data.\nProficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.\nFamiliarity with Microsoft PowerPoint and data visualization concepts.\nAbility to understand and follow technical specifications, programming requirements, and analytical protocols.\nCommitment to producing accurate, validated, well-documented, and
