In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.What you will be doing\nYEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED\nMinimum one (1) year of experience in hospital and/or professional billing, insurance follow-up, customer service, patient financial services, cash posting, or a related healthcare environment.\nYEARS OF EXPERIENCE PREFERRED\nPrevious Hospital Billing (HB) and/or Professional Billing (PB) follow-up experience preferred.\nExperience with:\nHospital billing and/or Professional billing and insurance follow-up\nBasic denial management\nEpic Resolute Hospital Billing and/or Professional Billing\nCommercial, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, No-Fault, and Managed Care reimbursement\nMicrosoft Office Suite with emphasis in Excel\nStrong customer service, communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail\nAbility to meet productivity and quality standards within a revenue cycle environment\nUnderstanding of basic revenue cycle functions.\nKnowledge of claim lifecycle from billing through reimbursement.\nBasic understanding of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and insurance terminology.\nPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS\nSitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move throughout the department and hospital campus. Category 1 tasks are not a condition of employment.\nPOSITION & UNIT ACCOUNTABILITIES\nResolves Payor Issues\nReviews assigned Hospital Billing (HB) and/or Professional Billing (PB) workqueues for routine unpaid or pending insurance claims.\nContacts insurance carriers regarding claim status, missing information, and routine reimbursement issues.\nResearch payer responses and follows established departmental workflows to facilitate timely reimbursement.\nEscalates complex reimbursement issues requiring additional review.\nSupports Claim Resolution\nReviews routine denial information and identifies appropriate next steps.\nAssists with corrected claims, reconsiderations, appeals, and supporting documentation as directed.\nCoordinates with internal departments to obtain information needed for claim resolution.\nSupports timely resolution of assigned accounts.\nMaintains Documentation & Account Information\nMaintains complete, accurate, and timely account documentation.\nDocuments payer communications, account activity, and follow-up actions.\nUpdates claim history to support continued account resolution.\nMaintains documentation in accordance with departmental standards.\nCoordinates Interdepartmental Communication\nCommunicates with Coding, HIM, Patient Access, Billing, Cash Posting, and other departments regarding routine claim issues.\nRoutes accounts requiring additional review with supporting documentation.\nMonitors routed accounts and follows up as appropriate.\nEscalates unresolved issues when departmental turnaround times are exceeded.\nProductivity & Operational Performance\nAchieves established productivity, quality, aging, and inventory management benchmarks.\nMaintains assigned inventory in accordance with departmental service level expectations.\nSupports departmental accounts receivable reduction and cash collection goals.\nParticipates in departmental process improvement initiatives.\nCompliance\nEnsures follow-up activities comply with payer regulations, hospital policies, and departmental procedures.\nProtects confidential patient and financial information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.\nMaintains current knowledge of payer policies, Epic workflow updates, and departmental procedures.\nTeam Collaboration\nParticipates in departmental meetings, huddles, training sessions, and quality reviews.\nCommunicates effectively with peers and internal departments.\nDemonstrates flexibility with changing work assignments and departmental priorities.\nMaintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.\nEDUCATION REQUIRED\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), may include specialized or vocational courses.\nEDUCATION PREFERRED\nAssociate’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Health Information Management, or related field preferred.\nCERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE REQUIRED\nNone.\nCERTIFICATIONS / LICENSURE PREFERRED\nCertified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR)\nCertified Professional Biller (CPB)\nOther healthcare revenue cycle certifications preferred.\nSKILLS REQUIRED\nInsurance follow-up and account resolution\nHospital Billing (HB) and/or Professional Billing (PB)\nBasic denial management\nAbility to navigate Epic Resolute Hospital Billing and/or Professional Billing workqueues, account activity, claim history, and follow-up documentation functions.\nMicrosoft Office Suite\nCustomer service\nEffective verbal and written communication\nAttention to detail\nOrganization and time management\nAbility to manage assigned inventory and prioritize workload\nSKILLS PREFERRED\nEpic Resolute Hospital Billing and/or Professional Billing experience\nKnowledge of payer reimbursement methodologies\nInsurance follow-up and basic denial resolution\nCommercial, Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation, No-Fault, and Managed Care follow-up\nAbility to identify routine claim issues and escalate complex reimbursement concerns appropriately\nNon-Discrimination Policy\nHospital for Special Surgery is committed to providing high quality care and skilled, compassionate, reliable service to our community in a safe and healing environment.
