Performs other unit functions appropriate to the position, and in compliance with HSC policies, procedures and protocols.\nPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIES\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nAssists surgery staff requests for surgical case carts, supplies, equipment and trays. Prioritizes appropriately and delivers in a timely manner.\n\nRetrieves soiled equipment, decontaminates and prepares for re-issue.\n\nAccurately prepares instrument trays and packs, sterilizes’ protects items and self by handling equipment properly to prevent damage and loss. Follows PPE protocols.\n\nDemonstrates knowledge of care and cleaning of lumens.\n\nPrior to sterilization, completes component check of each instrument to verify completeness and proper function of each instrument.\n\nIdentifies that instrumentation coming from the washer decontaminator has been completely cleaned.\n\nDemonstrates the ability to reassemble any instrument disassembled for decontamination.\n\nVerifies all instrument mechanisms are working smoothly. Prioritizes and assembles standard and complex surgical instrumentation sets for the next day’s surgical schedule.\n\nConfirms that conditions for sterilization have been met.\n\nDocuments what type and number of items in each load, sterilization date, and equipment log.\n\nPerforms routine equipment maintenance and terminal cleaning.\n\nDemonstrates responsibility for own competency, mandatory programs and annual performance evaluation by maintaining all personal date up to date.\n\nParticipates in the orientation of new employees\n\nSupportive Responsibilities:\nParticipates in the management of supplies for trays contain implants and sterile department supplies.\n\nDocuments any missing instruments on the outside of each instrument tray. Consults with RN Manager and Director.\n\nWorks as a member of the total Surgical Services team to foster interdepartmental success.\n\nPerforms other related work as requested.\n\nActively participates in the Department’s housekeeping responsibilities and duties\n\nExperience:\nRequired:\nOne (1) year experience in disinfection/sterilization and utilizing technical sterilization equipment involving multiple parts within the medical field.\n\nEducation:\nRequired:\nHigh School Diploma or equivalent.\nGraduate from an approved Central Sterilization Technician Program.\n\nSpecial Qualifications:\nRequired:\nUnderstanding of sterilization techniques.\n\nKnowledge of different sterilization methods and equipment.\n\nAttention to detail and strong organizational skills.\n\nPreferred:\nCertified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) credential\n\nThe Hughston Clinic, The Hughston Foundation, The Hughston Surgical Center, Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics, Hughston Medical, Hughston Orthopaedics Trauma, Hughston Orthopaedics Southeast and Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital participate in E-Verify.
