{"id":3628130,"url":"https://alion.io/job/hulamin-instrumentation-technician","title":"Instrumentation Technician","company":{"id":4495582,"name":"Hulamin","domain":"hulamin.com","url":"https://alion.io/company/hulamin","size_band":null,"is_staffing_agency":false,"employer_type":"direct","is_intermediary":false,"listed_via":null,"ats_vendor":"MCI DirectHire","truth_index":null},"role":"Field & Service","role_family":"Field & Service","seniority":"middle","employment_type":null,"work_mode":"on_site","remote_scope":null,"remote_scope_basis":null,"remote_working_hours":null,"hiring_geo_confidence":"structured","locations":["Pietermaritzburg, South Africa"],"countries":["ZA"],"hiring_countries":[],"hiring_countries_total":0,"salary":null,"salary_estimate":null,"experience_years_min":3,"visa_sponsorship":false,"relocation_package":false,"has_equity":false,"technologies":[],"status":"live","first_seen_at":"2026-10-26T12:00:00Z","employer_posted_date":"2026-11-02","last_verified_at":"2026-11-06T02:47:19Z","board_verified":true,"closed_at":null,"days_open":10,"trust":{"level":"ok","repost_count":null,"flags":[],"days_open":10},"description":"Job Description\nPURPOSE OF ROLE\nTo optimise plant reliability and product quality through effective monitoring, calibration, maintenance, fault-finding and improvement of instrumentation, automation and control systems within Foil Rolling.\nKEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nMaintain, calibrate, optimise and support instrumentation and control systems across Foil Rolling equipment.\nProvide technical support for Rolling Mill Level 1 systems, surface inspection systems, thickness/profile/contour measurement systems, flatness control systems and infrared temperature measurement systems.\nConduct fault-finding and repairs on PLCs, SCADA/DCS systems, AC/DC drives, field instruments, actuators and industrial networks.\nAnalyse equipment and process trends to identify deviations, potential failures and corrective or preventative actions.\nComplete scheduled inspections, MAXIMO checklists, statutory checks, calibrations and associated technical records.\nRespond to breakdowns, implement short-term recovery actions and develop sustainable long-term solutions.\nPlan and support maintenance shutdowns, including work scoping, spares identification, quality checks and start-up verification.\nLead or participate in automation, instrumentation and equipment improvement projects, upgrades and commissioning.\nDevelop and update SOPs, fault-finding guides and technical training material, and coach maintenance and operational teams.\nWork collaboratively with Operations, Process, Maintenance, suppliers and OEMs to improve safety, quality, reliability and process performance.\nJob Requirements\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS\nNational Diploma or S4 in Electrical Engineering (Light Current), Instrumentation or a suitable equivalent qualification.\nA B-Tech or relevant engineering degree will be advantageous.\nAt least 3 to 5 years’ relevant technical experience in a manufacturing environment.\nRolling process experience, particularly Hot, Cold or Foil Rolling, will be highly advantageous.\nSound experience in servicing, calibration and fault-finding on specialised instrumentation and process measurement systems.\nStrong PLC, SCADA/DCS and industrial network fault-finding capability, with programming exposure.\nSound knowledge of AC and DC drives and associated control systems.\nAbility to analyse and interpret technical and process data and produce clear reports.\nAbility to coordinate maintenance tasks, shutdown work and technical projects.\nPreparedness to work overtime, standby and shifts when operationally required.CORE COMPETENCIES\n\nInstrumentation and Control Expertise - Strong knowledge of measurement, calibration, PLC, SCADA/DCS and drive systems.\nAnalytical Problem Solving - Ability to interpret trends, diagnose complex faults and implement sustainable solutions.\nQuality and Reliability Focus - Commitment to accurate calibration, equipment reliability and product quality.\nProject and Maintenance Coordination - Ability to plan and deliver shutdown, upgrade and commissioning activities.\nCommunication and Development - Ability to work across disciplines and transfer technical knowledge.\nSafety and Governance - Consistent compliance with lock-out, statutory, quality and change-control requirements.\nHulamin is committed to prioritising transformation in line with diversity, inclusion and all legislative requirements in its recruitment and appointment processes.\nHulamin reserves the right to withdraw, alter and re-advertise any vacant position based on its operational requirements.\nHulamin does not require or solicit any payments for any recruitment process.
