Investment returns will be used to further the charitable objectives of The Waqf Fund while preserving the invested capital\nThe Finance Unit provides financial services and support for fundraising, investments and charitable\nactivities, supporting internal and external stakeholders with accurate, timely and compliant financial\ninformation.\nThe Finance Manager will lead the timely and accurate processing, control and reporting of income,\nexpenditure, balance sheet performance, payroll and VAT. The role will manage the annual audit, the year\nend financial statement. He/she will work closely with budget holders and the Fundraising teams to\nidentify and resolve financial issues.\nThe Finance Manager will deliver the month-end close and performance reporting including quarterly\nfinancial reporting for the Board. The role will provide stakeholders with timely, up-to-date analysis of\nincome, expenditure, trends, forecasts and ad-hoc support as required to the leadership team.\nThe Finance Manager will ensure that financial controls, policies & procedures operate effectively and\ncomply with applicable UK accounting standards, Charity SORP, charity law and other relevant legislation.\nPosition Overview\nResponsibilities \nSuccess in the role will be measured against the following key performance indicators:\nDeliver accurate monthly management accounts, including income and expenditure, balance sheet\nreconciliations, cash flow and budget variance analysis, within the agreed month-end timetable.\nMaintain effective financial controls so that all material balance sheet accounts, bank accounts, investment\nbalances and donor income records are reconciled monthly, with exceptions investigated and resolved promptly.\nPrepare annual statutory accounts, audit schedules and supporting evidence to agreed deadlines, achieving an\nefficient audit with no significant control weaknesses or avoidable adjustments.\nEnsure full and timely compliance with Charity SORP, HMRC and other applicable regulatory requirements,\nincluding accurate submission of VAT, tax and statutory returns and implementation of agreed audit\nrecommendations.\nProvide the Board, Waqf Manager and budget holders with timely, reliable financial reports, forecasts and\ninvestment-performance information that support effective oversight of capital preservation, Shariah-compliant\ninvestments and the use of distributable returns for charitable purposes.\nMaintain accurate fund accounting and restricted-fund records, ensuring donations, investment capital,\ninvestment returns and charitable distributions are correctly classified, traceable and used in accordance with\ndonor restrictions and approved purposes.\nManage cash flow, banking and payment processes so that approved obligations are met on time, sufficient\nliquidity is maintained and all payments comply with delegated authority, segregation-of-duties and value-for\nmoney requirements.\nLead and develop the finance function, meeting agreed service standards, resolving stakeholder queries promptly\nand delivering continuous improvements that strengthen data quality, efficiency and financial governance.\nMain Responsibilities\nNB:Employee duties are not limited only to the above-mentioned responsibilities; they may perform other duties as assigned\nCandidate essential criteria\nEducation & Qualifications\nQualified Professional Accountant in a finance discipline (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA) or Qualified by Experience.\nExperience\nExperience\nSignificant experience managing a finance department within the charity sector, with an understanding of charitable programmes, fundraising, and operational activities.\nSignificant experience providing assurance and oversight of finance functions, systems, processes, and procedures.\nExperience using NAV or other accounting systems, with strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger processes, chart of accounts, and financial procedures.\nExperience supporting operational, fundraising, and programme teams on finance-related matters.\nExperience working in a fast-paced environment.\nExperience working effectively with colleagues across multiple office locations.\nExperience with tax accounting, partial exemption, and VAT returns.\nKnowledge of Charity SORP accounting.\nExperience working within the humanitarian, international development, or NGO sector.\nExperience supporting fundraising and donor-funded activities.\nExperience working with investment reporting or investment-related financial activities.\nSkills & Knowledge\nProficiency in Microsoft Office applications and financial/accounting systems.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.\nAbility to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities.\nEffective oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English.\nAbility to analyse information and solve problems using data.\nAbility to improve existing financial processes and controls.\nAbility to work independently with minimal supervision.\nAbility to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.\nAbility to perform effectively under pressure and deliver results.\nFlexible approach to work in support of organisational objectives.\nWillingness to learn and develop.\nCandidate desirable criteria\nAdditional language skills beyond English.\nHow to apply\nWe are keen to appoint the right person for this position as soon as possible and will be considering applications as they are received.
