This role prepares analyses of short-term and long-term capacity requirements for switching, routing, transmission, and signaling. It involves conducting SDWAN network design and testing, as well as feasibility and cost studies. The engineer develops standard solutions and establishes the required sequence of network activities. Site growth and expansion evaluations are conducted to determine the impact on remote services. The Senior Network Engineer actively participates in departmental strategy and makes decisions on moderately complex to highly complex technical issues related to project components. Work is performed independently, with considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments. The position requires participation in on-call and implementation duties during nights and weekends, as needed. Humana seeks a Senior Network Engineer who will deliver solutions for multi-platform network connectivity. This critical role within Humana's IT organization encompasses engineering and design, planning, implementation, and the establishment of operational and maintenance programs to deliver best-in-class, next-generation SDWAN and remote site infrastructure. Responsibilities include optimizing all aspects of the remote network ecosystem, such as performance, resiliency, availability, resource utilization, and innovation. Additionally, this position provides cloud network design, engineering, and administrative support for both physical and virtual networking devices within multi-platform environments. The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for leveraging highly available networking technologies in a heterogeneous environment.\nUse your skills to make an impact\nRequired Qualifications\nBS/BA, preferably in a technical or scientific field or in lieu of BS/BA, 4+ years industry experience + industry certifications\n4+ years of experience working with SDWAN architecture network designs, implementations, and support\nNetwork engineering certification such as CCNP/CCIE, Fortinet NSE, AASX or equivalent\n4+ years of technical network engineering experience, and 3+ years of project leadership experience\n4+ years of Layer 2/ Layer 3 network architectural design (WAN/Cloud/Data Center) and engineering experience\n4+ years of experience working with BGP and other WAN technologies\nStrong experience supporting large-scale environments and remote sites\nExperience with Cisco networking equipment\nExperience with Palo Alto Firewalls\nExperience in SDWAN overlay technologies\nKnowledge of QoS and network security functions (firewalls, VPN, IPS, etc)\nAbility to manage complex multi-organizational projects\nExperience with implementing and operating software-defined network environments (Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Meraki etc.)\nVendor management skills (hardware/software security vendors as well as third party vendors)\nExperience working with Data Center Colocation facilities and virtual network fabric provided by vendors such as Equinix and Mega-Port.\nPass eQIP certification background check\nThis role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.\nPreferred Qualifications\nProgramming/scripting languages and frameworks knowledge and experience, in support of automation (Python, Ansible, etc.)\nExperience with AGILE methodology & ITSM processes\nPractical experience leveraging AI tools in a network engineering context, such as:Claude, Gemini, GitHub Copilot (or similar tools) for design assistance, documentation generation, troubleshooting guides, and code review of network automation scripts.\nExperience with agentic AI and automation patterns, including:Designing and working with AI agents, orchestration frameworks, or MCP-style gateways to interact with network APIs, monitoring platforms, and ticketing systems.Building or maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for network configurations (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).Integrating network automation and validation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) for configuration testing, compliance checks, and staged rollouts.\nFamiliarity with zero-trust networking concepts, segmentation, and integration with firewalls and security services (Zscaler ZIA, ZPA).\nExperience in hybrid cloud connectivity (AWS/Azure/GCP) and integrating SD-WAN with cloud on-ramps.\nBackground in strict change control operations and change management processes.\n\nAdditional Information\nAbility to translate business requirements into scalable, supportable network designs.\nStrong documentation, communication, and presentation skills; comfortable discussing designs with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nLeadership mindset with the ability to guide, mentor, and influence other engineers.\nHigh degree of ownership, initiative, and accountability in a fast-moving environment.\nWork at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested.
