The role focuses on ensuring that data-collection pipelines, hardware setups, and system configurations support reliable experimentation and high-quality dataset generation for robotics research and development. A key aspect of this role is ensuring maximum system uptime and rapid response to issues that may impact data-collection Continuity.\nRole Purpose\nTo ensure continuous, reliable operation of the robotics fleet and AI Data Collection System, enabling high-quality data generation and uninterrupted experimentation for robotics research.\nThis position is a permanent night shift, with working hours of 10:30 pm - 7:00 am, and may require occasional travel in line with business needs.\nWhat You'll Do:\nEnsure continuous uptime of the robotics fleet and AI Data Collection System through proactive monitoring, rapid issue response, and preventive maintenance.\n\nOversee daily system operation, ensuring all robots, sensors, and data pipelines are functioning correctly.\n\nConfigure and prepare robotic systems for data-collection runs, including calibration, software setup, and environment readiness.\n\nExecute and support data-collection experiments in collaboration with engineers and researchers, ensuring reliability and repeatability.\n\nManage the collection, verification, labelling, and organised storage of datasets used for imitation learning and related ML workflows.\n\nTroubleshoot hardware, software, and system issues to minimise downtime and maintain workflow continuity.\n\nMaintain accurate records of equipment status, system utilisation, and performance, and coordinate procurement of required components and replacements.\n\nDevelop and follow operational best practices to ensure safety, efficiency, and standardisation across data-collection activities.\n\nSchedule and prioritise robotics and data-collection resources to optimise experiment throughput and system availability.\n\nSupport improvements to data-collection processes, system stability, documentation, and operational procedures.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.\n\nPractical experience operating robotic systems or automated hardware setups.\n\nStrong organisational, time-management, and communication skills.\n\nExperience with data collection, dataset organisation, and data-management workflows for machine learning or robotics.\n\nHands-on experience with ROS (Robot Operating System).\n\nProficiency with Linux-based development and runtime environments.\n\nBasic proficiency in Python or C++ (preferred but not required).\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with inventory tracking, procurement, and supplier coordination.\nFamiliarity with operational safety practices and compliance requirements.\nDemonstrated interest in robotics, automation, and applied research.\n\nWhat We Offer\nCompetitive equity: stock options with meaningful upside as we scale.\n\n30+ paid days off, including 23 days of annual leave, all UK bank holidays, and additional company closure days (including Christmas-New Year shutdown).\n\nPrivate healthcare, including virtual and in-person care.\n\nPension scheme with 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer) on full earnings.\n\nFree daily breakfast, catered lunch, and snacks in-office.\n\nWork at the frontier -
