Their team provides bookkeeping, payroll, financial reporting and broader accounting support, with a strong focus on accuracy, accountability, efficiency and professional client service. The business offers exposure to a range of Australian clients and opportunities to develop skills across end-to-end accounting and financial management.\nRole Overview: We are looking for a capable and detail-oriented Intermediate Accountant to support Australian businesses with a broad range of accounting and payroll functions. This is a hands-on role covering end-to-end bookkeeping, general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll processing, month-end reporting and financial analysis.\nYou will work across potentially multiple Australian clients and will be expected to take ownership of your work, investigate discrepancies, manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work within agreed deadlines. Previous Australian accounting experience is preferred but not essential, with training and ongoing support provided in Australian accounting systems, payroll procedures and reporting requirements.\nUltimately, we are looking for someone with a strong accounting foundation, the right attitude and the potential to develop into a dependable, well-rounded accounting professional.\nNote: Performance will be assessed against agreed KPIs, including accuracy, timeliness, productivity, accountability, quality of work and client communication.\nFormal performance and remuneration reviews will take place every four months. Any remuneration adjustment will be performance-based and subject to business requirements, rather than automatic.\nKey Responsibilities:\nManage end-to-end bookkeeping and accounting for assigned Australian clients\nMaintain accurate general ledger records and process accounts payable and receivable\nPerform bank, credit card, merchant and balance sheet reconciliations\nPrepare and maintain accruals, prepayments, fixed asset, loan, payroll and other accounting schedules\nInvestigate and resolve discrepancies, unusual balances and incorrectly recorded transactions\nPrepare weekly and monthly financial reports, including P&L, Balance Sheet and budget vs actual reports\nAssist with cash flow monitoring, management reporting and financial analysis\nProcess monthly journals and support accurate and timely month-end close\nProcess weekly, fortnightly or monthly Australian payroll, including leave, deductions, reimbursements and final pay\nReconcile payroll liabilities, PAYG, superannuation and related accounts\nAssist with STP reporting, payroll-related BAS/IAS reconciliations and other compliance activities as required\nCommunicate directly with Australian clients regarding accounting, bookkeeping and payroll queries\nFollow up missing information, provide work updates and proactively raise issues\nAssist with accounting system implementations, process improvements, reporting templates and automation\nSupport other finance and accounting activities as required\nThe position involves end-to-end bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, balance sheet reconciliations, weekly and monthly financial reporting, and client liaison.\nRequirements\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field\nMinimum 3 years of relevant accounting experience\nStrong experience in end-to-end bookkeeping and general ledger accounting\nPractical experience preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations\nExperience preparing monthly financial statements and management reports\nStrong understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping\nIntermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills\nExperience with cloud-based accounting software\nStrong written and verbal English communication skills\nAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities\nStrong attention to detail and organisational skills\nAbility to consistently meet reporting and processing deadlines\nWillingness to handle a broad range of accounting and payroll responsibilities\nStrong accounting fundamentals, initiative, accountability, attention to detail, communication and a willingness to learn are essential.\nMust be comfortable handling multiple responsibilities, working independently and meeting agreed deadlines.\nHighly Desirable:\nAustralian accounting or bookkeeping experience\nXero experience or certification\nExperience with MYOB or QuickBooks\nKnowledge of Australian GST, BAS, PAYG, superannuation and payroll requirements\nExperience with Employment Hero or similar payroll platforms\nCPA qualification or ongoing professional accounting studies\nExperience managing multiple client accounts
