Nexus is their internal AI transformation program: four AI-enabled applications that will lift productivity, automate repetitive work, put company knowledge at our team's fingertips, and extend Ostendo with new modules.\nMVPs already exist for the applications, so you'll start with a clear picture of what we need\nRole Overview: We're looking for a senior software engineer who uses AI as an accelerator. You bring strong engineering fundamentals and use tools like OpenAI Codex, Claude Code and Cursor every day to design, build, debug, test and document faster.\nYou'll own each application end to end:\nRequirements → Architecture → Development → Testing → Security Review → UAT → Deployment → Documentation → Handover\nThe goal is software that is secure, maintainable, well documented and ready for our internal team to support long after handover. Our Brisbane team will supply requirements, business knowledge and heavy involvement in UAT, so you can focus on building it right.\nKey Responsibilities:\nApplication Development\nDesign and build the four Nexus applications, from front end and back end to database and integration layers\n Translate business requirements from the Australian team into practical technical solutions\n Integrate Nexus with our Ostendo ERP via its API, adding new modules and capabilities\nUse AI-assisted development extensively to move fast, while reviewing and owning every line that ships\nAI Integration\n Integrate applications with LLM platforms including OpenAI, Claude and Microsoft AI services\nBuild a knowledge engine for our product specs and documents using RAG, embeddings and vector search\nApply structured outputs, function calling, AI agents and workflow automation where they add value\nChoose confidently between AI and conventional software logic for each problem\nSoftware Architecture\nEstablish a technical architecture built for security, reliability, maintainability, scalability and auditability\n Set up separate development, testing and production environments\nExplain architectural decisions to our IT team in plain language\nSource Code and Version Control\nRun professional Git practices: branching strategy, pull requests, code reviews, release management and rollback procedures\nKeep all source code in company-controlled repositories with a clear change history\nSecurity\nImplement authentication, Microsoft Authenticator / 2FA and role-based access control\nManage API authentication, secrets and keys, database security and encryption\nBuild in logging, audit trails, input validation and dependency/package security\nProtect against common web vulnerabilities and handle confidential company information with care\nReview, test and validate all AI-generated code before it is accepted\nTesting and UAT\n Establish unit, integration, automated and regression testing\nSet up UAT environments and support the Australian team through business-process validation\nBuild robust error handling, logging and monitoring\nDocumentation and Knowledge Transfer\nDeliver system architecture, repository, database and API/integration documentation\nWrite deployment, environment/configuration, administrator and troubleshooting guides, plus security notes\nRun regular knowledge-transfer sessions so our internal team can confidently maintain and support every application\nAdd clear code comments where they aid understanding and maintenance\nRequirements\nRequired Skills and Qualifications:\n10+ years of professional software development experience\nProduction systems you have personally built, deployed and maintained, ready to walk us through\nFull-stack development of modern web applications\nREST APIs and API integration\nSQL and database design\nDeveloping agentic AI systems and full-stack AI applications.\nAgent orchestration, tool use, workflows, memory and multi-agent systems.\nAI code-generation verification, testing, review and evaluation.\nLLM guardrails, policies, skills and behavioural controls.\nCybersecurity best practices for AI applications and autonomous agents.\nToken budgeting, context-window management, latency and inference cost optimisation.\nIntegrating AI agents with APIs, databases, authentication, monitoring and production systems.\nGit and professional version control workflows\n Authentication, authorization and application security\nCloud deployment and production maintenance\nTesting and debugging\nDaily use of AI development tools (Codex, Claude Code, Cursor or similar) across design, development, debugging, testing and documentation, with real examples to share\nPreferred Experience:\nExperience with some of the following is highly regarded.
