In this role the Engineer is responsible for identifying areas where improvement is warranted and then designing the improvements, obtaining approval, generating support for the improvement, assisting in construction if needed, commissioning, and troubleshooting of the improvement.\nThirdly, the Process Engineer III serves as a primary technical point contact and process expert for the refinery and operating systems under his/her responsibility and at least one other operating area or technology within the refinery. The Process Engineer III has an in-depth understanding of how the operating systems under his/her responsibility integrates with other areas of the refinery. In this role the Engineer serves in a supportive role for all HRC departments and organizations; such as the Management staff, Operations, Safety, Environmental Support Group, Marketing Personnel, Human Resources, etc.\nFinally, the Process Engineer III is to serve as a representative of HRC Management when dealing with personnel within and outside of HRC.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES\nOperations Support:\nPerform process monitoring on day-to-day operations and advise management and engineering of any issues that may be developing.\nIdentify and troubleshoot process limitations/problems and lead in resolution.\nFollow trends in operational data and identify potential problems in early stages, communicate suspicions and work toward avoidance resolution.\nAssist Operations in unit or system start up, shutdown and preparations for equipment maintenance.\nReduce the cost of existing processes through energy conservation, unit optimization, etc.\nIdentify needed design or operational changes to maintain effectiveness of the processes.\nAdvise Management of operational changes needed to achieve process goals and requirements.\nPerform PSM functions including HAZOP participation, resolution of HAZOP recommendations, MOC preparation and review.\nAssist Operational Specialist in performance of their duties.\nAssist Operations in development of unit and system procedures.\nAssist Operations and Mechanical personnel in resolution of issues they encounter.\nAssist in training, especially the technical aspects, of the processes.\nProcess Improvement:\nIdentify changes that are needed to improve the safety, reliability, profitability, etc. of process units or systems\nDevelop and design attractive process unit or system changes.\nPrepare MOC’s and obtain support and/or funding for changes\nAssist in commissioning and troubleshooting of unit or system changes\nAssist in improvement of unit and system procedures\nProcess and/or System Technical Point Contact:\nBecome aware of all environmental rules that apply to units and systems and assist in compliance to the rules and regulations.\nAssist Environmental, Health & Safety Department technically during maintenance of regulations and in development of new/or changing regulations\nAssist all other organization departments where technical assistance is required specific to the processes and systems.\nProficient in engineering/design software.\nLead formal root cause analysis discussions to ensure effective solutions to prevent recurrence.\nAssist in development and growth of technical and hourly personnel.\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\nMinimum of Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from a four-year college or university. Five to eight years related experience in a refining, chemical or related industry.\nCERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS\nValid driver’s license.\nADDITIONAL INFORMATION\nMust have the following:\nAbility to work in a team environment\nLeadership and motivational skills for peers\nSelf motivated with desire to learn and develop new skills\nExhibit a “can do” attitude and spirit of cooperation\nSupport management objectives\nSubject to periodic “on-call” duty and non-scheduled call-in \nSubject to periodic turnaround technical support including holidays and night shifts.\nThis position requires the individual to be certified to use respiratory protection which includes: fresh air work requiring a tight-fitting full-face mask and a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing up to 35 lbs. Conditions during use could be routine maintenance or operations activities, emergency rescue including in atmospheric concentrations that are immediately dangerous to life and health.
