This position will report to the Engineering Manager.\nJob Scope\nThe Controls Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing plant automation and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role combines hands-on technical support with continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on equipment reliability, cybersecurity, compliance, and production performance within an industrial manufacturing environment.\nIn summary, as the Controls Engineer, you will:\nModify, maintain, and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial control networks.\n\nDiagnose automation and controls issues to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.\n\nProvide support for IT/OT networks, including network segmentation and operational cybersecurity.\n\nEnsure compliance with applicable safety standards, electrical codes, OSHA requirements, and internal policies.\n\nCollaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to perform root cause analyses and implement long-term corrective solutions.\n\nServe as the automation lead for system upgrades, new production line installations, and equipment integrations.\n\nSupport continuous improvement initiatives through data analytics, process optimization, and automation enhancements.\n\nLead control system lifecycle assessments, identifying obsolete equipment, cybersecurity risks, and recommending replacement strategies.\n\nManage vendor relationships related to controls hardware, software, and system integrators.\n\nTrain plant personnel on new systems, best practices, and troubleshooting methodologies.\n\nManage parts selection and quoting to support control systems and operational cybersecurity infrastructure.\n\nAct as a liaison between internal stakeholders, vendors, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.\n\nPrioritize and manage multiple projects and work streams simultaneously.\n\nPrepare reports, metrics, and tracking tools; ensure documentation and records are properly maintained.\n\nShare technical knowledge to develop and enhance the skills of site personnel.\n\nQualifications\nYou must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.\nThe candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.\nMinimum Qualifications\nEducation required\nBachelor of Science in Industrial Controls, Mechatronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.\n\nExperience required\n4+ years of controls or automation experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.\n\nSkills and Knowledge\nStrong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.\n\nSolid understanding of industrial automation systems and control networks.\n\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.\n\nEffective verbal and written communication skills.\n\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.\n\nAdaptability and willingness to work in a dynamic industrial environment.\n\nCommitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.\n\nAbility to research and apply Huntsman, ISO, and applicable regulatory and professional standards.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nManufacturing industry experience within chemicals or related industries.\n\nExperience supporting IT/OT integration and industrial cybersecurity initiatives.\n\nPrior experience leading automation-related capital or improvement projects.\n\nFamiliarity with vendor management and system integrator coordination.\n\nWorking Environment\nIndustrial manufacturing plant environment.\n\nRegular exposure to production areas, equipment, and control systems.\n\nPhysical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, kneeling, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.\n\nTypical work distribution: Standing 30%, Walking 30%, Sitting 40%.\n\nWhat can we offer you?\nSalary range $90,000 / $120,000 per year.\nThe compensation range reflects the Company’s reasonable expectation at the time of posting.
