The HIM ROI Document Scanner plays a critical role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant management of patient health information.This position is responsible for the preparation, scanning, indexing, reconciliation, and release of health records while maintaining strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations. The role supports the integrity of the electronic health record (EHR), facilitates timely Release of Information (ROI) requests, and provides exceptional customer service to patients, providers, staff, and external stakeholders.\n**This position will be onsite in Hutchinson, Kansas**\nHIM Document Scanning & Record Reconciliation\nReconcile patient records and supporting documentation.\nCollect discharged records and loose documents from assigned departments.\nFollow up on missing records and documentation.\nPrepare, scan, and index patient records into the EHR.\nValidate image quality, patient identification, and document accuracy.\nMaintain productivity and quality standards for document processing.\nRelease of Information (ROI)Process medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA and regulatory requirements.\nRetrieve electronic and paper records for authorized release.\nValidate authorizations and supporting documentation.\nProcess requests from patients, providers, payers, attorneys, auditors, and other approved parties.\nManage subpoenas, court orders, and legal requests.\nCommunicate authorization requirements to requestors when needed.\nEnter, track, and maintain ROI requests in designated systems.\nScan and attach ROI documentation to the patient record.\nEscalate unusual or sensitive requests appropriately.\nCustomer Service & Operational SupportProvide exceptional customer service to patients, providers, and internal stakeholders.\nServe as a point of contact for HIM-related inquiries.\nAnswer department phone calls and assist visitors.\nSupport departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.\nAssist with additional HIM functions as assigned.\nCompliance & QualityProtect the confidentiality and security of PHI.\nAdhere to HIPAA, state, federal, and organizational requirements.\nFollow established HIM, ROI, and document management policies.\nSupport quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts.\nMaintain accuracy, compliance, and turnaround time standards.\nRequired Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or equivalent.\n2+ years of experience in Health Information Management, medical records, document imaging, or a related healthcare setting.\nProficiency with basic computer applications and data entry.\nKnowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations.\nStrong organization, communication, and customer service skills.\nAbility to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.\nAbility to work independently and collaboratively.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAssociate degree or higher.\nExperience with Release of Information (ROI) processes.\nExperience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.\nKnowledge of medical terminology.\nRHIT or RHIA certification.\nThe estimated hourly range for this job is $19.23 - $25.93. The range represents a good faith estimate of the range that Huron reasonably expects to pay for this job at the time of the job posting. The actual rate paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to specific skills or certifications, years of experience, market changes, and required travel. The job is also eligible to participate in Huron’s benefit plans which include medical, dental and vision coverage and other wellness programs.
