Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide.\nHX5 is currently seeking an Engineering Technician to work onsite in a laboratory environment at Redstone Arsenal.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities:\nConstructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.\nFollows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.\nConducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.\nAssemble or construct standard equipment or parts following specific instructions.\nService and repair simple instruments or equipment as directed.\nConduct tests using established methods and operate test equipment.\nPrepare test specimens and accurately record and verify test data.\nExtract and process engineering data field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.\nIdentify deviations caused by equipment issues or observational errors.\nPresent processed data in prescribed formats for engineering review.\nAssist in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; develop information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and use judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.\nDiagnose and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and peripheral electronics\nSet up, configure, and deploy desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other electronic test equipment\nAssist with physical network infrastructure deployment and basic network connectivity troubleshooting (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, VPN)\nGuide non-technical users through step-by-step problem-solving processes\nEscalate complex issues to senior IT team members when necessary\nPerform precision component-level soldering for electronic repairs and modifications\nCustom-build, terminate, and test Cat5/Cat6 ethernet cables and coaxial cable connections\nRoute, pull, secure, and install fiber optic and Ethernet (Cat5/Cat6) cable infrastructure to meet specific test environment requirements\nMaintain clean, organized cable management within server racks, test benches, and ceilings/walls\nEducation and Experience:\nHigh school graduate or GED\nSome practical knowledge of science or engineering\nSome practical knowledge of mathematics\nMust be able to work from written and verbal instructions\nGood communication (written and verbal) skills\nMust be dependable and willing to work hours outside the normal schedule\nStrong attention to detail, accuracy, and workmanship\nExperience reading and understanding specifications and detailed work instructions\nStrong foundational knowledge of Windows operating systems and computer hardware parts\nBasic understanding of fiber optic connector types (LC, SC, ST) and handling/cleaning protocols\nPrevious experience reading basic wiring diagrams or electrical schematics\nHands-on experience with cable termination tools, crimpers, cable testers, and basic hand tools\nExperience building or repairing personal computers and electronics\nPreferred Experience:\nAssociate degree or high school diploma and/or 3 years equivalent technical experience\nExperience should include a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems for personal computers and MS Office products\nExperience with forklifts, aerial lifts, and bridge cranes\nExperience or knowledge of RDH\nPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work:\nThis is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week requiring 10-hour workdays Monday thru Thursday.\nOther Position Requirements:\nProof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.\nMust be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.\nRequires ability to obtain and maintain NASA Public Trust background screening requirements.\nMust be able to pass a MSFC physical examination for any required safety-related certifications.\nAll positions supporting the METTS III contract are subject to NASA medical screenings at the start of employment and annually, as determined by the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.\nWith or without reasonable accommodation must be able to operate various machines, lift, bend or crouch occasionally. \nMust be able to work independently or with a team.
