This role is responsible for driving sales and profitability, providing leadership and guidance to department managers and employees, and upholding high standards of customer service, safety, and compliance with company policies and regulations. Responsible for perpetuating the fundamental values of the Hy-Vee culture. This involves honesty, integrity, friendliness, caring for customers and employees, demonstrating sincerity, respect, and high levels of ethics and morals and helps the company improve and grow through company ownership.\nCore Competencies:\nPartnerships\n\nGrowth mindset\n\nResults oriented\n\nCustomer focused\n\nProfessionalism\n\nReporting Relations:\nAccountable and Reports to: Regional Vice President; Store Director\nPositions that Report to you: All store employees\nPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:\nLead and manage all store employees, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and team development.\n\nMaintains a positive attitude and creates an environment that nurtures positive employee morale, friendliness and fun.\n\nProvides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.\n\nSets the store standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and overall profitability.\n\nMonitor financial performance, including sales, labor, and inventory metrics, to ensure the store meets profitability goals.\n\nPrepare and analyze reports on sales, shrink, and operational performance, identifying areas for improvement.\n\nCollaborate with the Store Director to develop and implement strategies for growth and efficiency.\n\nCoordinates and participates in the recruiting, hiring, orientation, and training of store employees and is responsible for reflecting the diversity of the communities in which they serve.\n\nSmiles and greets customers in a friendly manner.\n\nMakes an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.\n\nAssists customers by:\nescorting them to the products they’re looking for\n\nsecuring products that are out of reach\n\nloading or unloading heavy items\n\nmakes note and passes along customer suggestions or requests\n\nperforming other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.\n\nAssists in determining the appropriate balance between customer service and cost of labor for their market.\n\nFosters a positive, inclusive, and results-driven work environment.\n\nHelps develop pricing structure and merchandising to plan and meet established goals.\n\nAssists department heads in developing appropriate criteria to meet their individual department goals.\n\nSupports the store in determining store advertising plan, selects the items, medium for placement and prices for maximum sales and profitability; reviews the media layout where necessary.\n\nUnderstands consumer trends and reacts to those trends in a timely and appropriate manner.\n\nReviews competitors pricing and stays abreast of new items on a regular basis.\n\nReviews all aspects of inventory process.\n\nRepresents the company in a positive manner and participates in local and company-wide community activities.\n\nEncourages employee involvement in company-wide activities as well as local and community activities.\n\nEnsures the store’s procedures are in place regarding safeguarding of financial assets.\n\nMaintains store operations in accordance with Hy-Vee’s policies, individual store guidelines, and procedure manual, Code of Ethics, and any applicable local, state and federal laws. Adheres to company policies and individual store guidelines.\n\nReports to work when scheduled and works expected number of hours.\n\nSecondary Duties and Responsibilities:\nPursues educational opportunities and ensures the same for employees.\n\nAssists in all areas of the store as needed.\n\nPerforms other job-related duties and special projects as required.\n\nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:\nMust have the ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems and with several abstract and concrete variables.\n\nMust have the ability to do arithmetic, algebraic and geometric calculations.\n\nMust be able to report, write, or edit articles for publication; prepare and deliver presentations; interview, counsel or advise people; evaluate technical data.\n\nEducation and Experience:\nHigh School or equivalent experience, plus Dale Carnegie and perimeter department training. Over five years of similar or related managerial experience.\nSupervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports):\nInstructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, and coordinating the activities of others.\n\nSelects new employees and addresses employee problems.\n\nHas the authority to recommend and approve employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments.\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nMust be able to physically perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently.\n\nVisual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.\n\nMust be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.\n\nWorking Conditions:\nThis position is exposed to dust, noise, and temperature extremes. There are possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents.
