In this role, you'll prepare and replenish products, assist customers at the bakery counter, and help create the kind of warm, welcoming experience that keeps people coming back.\nIf you enjoy working with your hands, take pride in a job well done, and love being part of a team that makes customers' days a little sweeter, this could be a great fit for you.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nDeliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery\n\nAssist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter\n\nReview daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift\n\nPrepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking\n\nFollow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all times\n\nCheck in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed\n\nOperate the department register to process payments where applicable\n\nRemove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department\n\nWork alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer\n\nMaintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies\n\nAssist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed\n\nYou'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department Manager\n\nYour Skills\nYou don't need prior experience for this role! We'll happily train and support you as you grow. To be successful, you'll need to be able to:\nFollow written and verbal instructions with confidence\n\nUse basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording\n\nCommunicate clearly with customers and teammates in a friendly, helpful way\n\nStay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy bakery environment\n\nLess than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, and Bakery Department Manager\nEducation and Experience\nLess than a high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted\n\nUp to six months of similar or related work experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis role is based in a store bakery environment where things stay busy and engaging. You may encounter exposure to flour dust, noise, temperature extremes, and damp conditions, all pretty standard for a bakery setting. The role also involves working with and around standard bakery equipment and may include exposure to electrical equipment and cleaning products or solvents.
