In this role, you'll be responsible for counting and balancing registers, managing the safe, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring cashiers have everything they need to serve customers smoothly.\nIf you are detail-oriented, trustworthy, and thrive in a role where accuracy really matters, we'd love to have you on our team.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive one\n\nCount registers after each cashier shift across all areas of the store and balance each register for cash and coin\n\nEnsure each cash pull is placed in the safe and that registers have adequate cash on hand, loaning money from the safe to registers as necessary\n\nSort checks, coupons, payouts, and charges and place them in the appropriate register files\n\nCalculate cash over and short amounts and investigate any discrepancies\n\nApprove checks written for cash or payment of merchandise purchases\n\nReconcile money orders, Western Union, utilities, bank cards, gift cards, and other applicable items\n\nPerform all register operations functions and stay knowledgeable of look-up numbers, department numbers, and item features\n\nTroubleshoot mechanical register issues such as receipt paper jams and act as cashier where applicable\n\nTrain cashiers and maintain an ongoing training program\n\nOperate menu-driven computer programs using a mouse, 10-key keypad, and alphanumeric keyboard\n\nAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned\n\nMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines\n\nReport to work when scheduled and on time\n\nYour Skills\nTo be successful, you'll need to be able to:\nAdd, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers accurately and efficiently\n\nCarry out detailed written and verbal instructions with care and precision\n\nFile, post, sort, and organize materials and paperwork\n\nRead and follow product safety information as needed\n\nMaintain a high level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial information\n\nCommunicate professionally with customers, cashiers, and store leadership\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations; Service Managers\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent experience required\n\n6 months to 1 year of similar or related experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis role is primarily performed in a store environment where you'll handle cash, registers, and financial records throughout your shift. There is occasional pressure to meet deadlines, and you'll regularly work with sensitive financial information.
