In this role, you’ll handle everything from processing transactions and bagging groceries to unloading product and rotating merchandise. If you enjoy staying active, take pride in a well-stocked store, and love helping customers, we’d love to have you on our team.\nWhat You’ll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:\nProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going out of your way to make every visit a great one\n\nOperate the cash register accurately, scanning product and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions\n\nCount back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise as needed\n\nEnsure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets\n\nPlace merchandise in bags or boxes, assist courtesy personnel, and support drive-up and carry-out service\n\nUnload product, open containers, stock shelves, and rotate product to ensure freshness and proper presentation\n\nStock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and take customers to items when requested\n\nStay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items\n\nKeep the register area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer\n\nVerify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift where applicable\n\nCommunicate clearly on the intercom or telephone and answer customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel as needed\n\nStay aware of your surroundings to support store safety and security\n\nAssist store management with displays and decorations for special promotions and events as needed\n\nAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned\n\nMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines\n\nReport to work when scheduled and on time\n\nYour Skills\nTo be successful, you’ll need to be able to:\nFollow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables\n\nPerform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages\n\nUnderstand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing\n\nWork effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of GM, Perishables, and Store Operations; Service Managers\nEducation and Experience\nNo education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed\n\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance\n\nContinuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)\n\nWork in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product\n\nWhere applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor\n\nWhere applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing\n\nAbility to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have daily exposure to dirt, noise, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with occasional exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, and potential electrical hazards.
