In this role, you'll create beautiful arrangements to customer specifications, serve as a lead for floral clerks, and ensure the department is stocked, fresh, and running smoothly. From processing FTD and Teleflora orders to counseling customers on floral care and stepping up to lead the department when needed, your expertise and passion make every customer interaction memorable.\nIf you are a skilled designer who loves working with people and thrives in a fast-paced creative environment, we'd love to have you on board.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nDeliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer warmly, counseling them on plant and floral care, taking special requests in person and by phone, and creating arrangements to their exact specifications\n\nClean, process, and cut flowers appropriately and wrap with care to avoid damage\n\nFill customer orders completely and on time, including small and complex arrangements for occasions such as weddings, funerals, and anniversaries\n\nUnderstand and process FTD, interstore, Teleflora, and internet orders; maintain confidentiality on all orders placed including sender, recipient, order details, and cost\n\nInventory product, evaluate freshness throughout the shop and the store, care for damaged product, and replace as necessary\n\nOperate as a lead with floral clerks by training them on simple designs, phone order procedures, and daily tasks\n\nInstruct, assign, and review the work of others; maintain standards and coordinate activities as needed; has the authority to recommend disciplinary actions\n\nOrder flowers and supplies daily or as needed with direction from the Floral Manager\n\nIdentify key areas throughout the store to place specials and share creative ideas for arrangements\n\nStay current on floral industry trends by reading industry references and remaining open to new ideas\n\nHelp with and may decorate in-store events\n\nAssume responsibility for the department in the absence of the Manager or Assistant Manager\n\nUnload trucks, place product in appropriate storage areas, and replenish merchandise\n\nAnswer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call\n\nFollow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines\n\nPitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up\n\nYour Skills\nTo be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:\nBring commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for delivering an outstanding customer and team experience\n\nDemonstrate strong floral design skills and knowledge of floral products, care and handling, and plant and flower identification\n\nLead and guide floral clerks in a fast-paced retail environment\n\nSolve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables and limited standardization\n\nApply math skills including fractions, decimals, and percentages in day-to-day tasks\n\nCommunicate clearly with customers, team members, and vendors and provide direction and guidance\n\nMaintain confidentiality on customer order details including who sent, who received, and order contents\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home; Floral Department Manager\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\n\nThree years of similar or related work experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a fast-moving role with significant pressure to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. You'll work primarily in a store environment and can expect exposure to dirt, noise, dampness, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals and solvents. Some holidays may require extended hours.
