In this role, you'll lead the grocery team, drive sales and profitability, oversee food safety compliance, manage schedules and employee development, and help create the kind of positive, customer-focused culture that makes Hy-Vee exceptional.\nIf you are an experienced retail leader who takes pride in developing people, delivering results, and serving your community, we'd love to have you on our team.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two days are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nAssist the Store Manager in overseeing all store operations and act on issues in the manager's absence\n\nMaintain a positive attitude and create an atmosphere of friendliness, teamwork, and accountability throughout the store\n\nProvide prompt, friendly customer service and set a strong example for all grocery employees\n\nEnsure food safety guidelines are followed and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local health and food safety regulations; provide food safety training for all store employees\n\nCoordinate all product recall events and take corrective action as necessary\n\nForecast, review, and may write the store labor schedule within the Store Director's guidelines\n\nRecruit, interview, select, orient, and train new employees; handle employee issues and coordinate disciplinary procedures when necessary\n\nCoordinate and assist in the performance evaluation process and review all employees at least annually\n\nWork with department heads and designated personnel on schedules, labor, product purchasing, and merchandising to meet departmental goals\n\nMonitor expenses and recommend cost reduction programs\n\nCoordinate physical inventory for the store, verify accuracy, and prepare the P&L as requested by the Store Director\n\nDetermine location of ad and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer and store demands\n\nMeet with sales representatives to determine new items, special purchases, pricing, and merchandising\n\nOversee building and grounds maintenance and all store sanitation to meet the Store Director's guidelines\n\nOversee cash accountability, accounting procedures, and audits to ensure compliance and investigate potential issues\n\nAttend company meetings as requested and disseminate information to store-level employees\n\nParticipate in companywide events, special store events, and community activities as directed\n\nHandle confidential information including employee salaries and files, and sales and profit data with discretion\n\nUse and understand all hardware and software technology in the store\n\nAdhere to all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines and report to work when scheduled\n\nYour Skills\nUse logical and scientific thinking to solve complex problems involving abstract and concrete variables\n\nPerform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accurately\n\nReport, write, or edit materials for publication; prepare and deliver presentations; interview, counsel, and advise people; and evaluate technical data\n\nLead and develop a team while building a collaborative, customer-focused store culture\n\nCommunicate effectively and professionally with customers, employees, vendors, and regulatory agencies\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home\nDirect Reports: Grocery Employees\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent experience required\n\nOne or more years of retail management experience required\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be active throughout the store and surrounding areas. You will have exposure to dust, noise, and temperature extremes, with possible equipment movement hazards and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents.
