In this role, you'll fill customer orders, prepare and replenish product, keep the department running smoothly, and deliver the kind of friendly service that makes every customer feel welcome. Whether you're taking an order at the counter, pulling product from the cooler, or keeping the workspace clean and organized, your work makes a real difference every shift.\nIf you enjoy a fast-paced food service environment, take pride in quality, and love working with people, we'd love to have you on our team.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nDeliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, taking orders at the Hy-Chi counter, and assisting them with their needs throughout the store\n\nReview orders for the day and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand by developing or following a production list\n\nPrepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary and pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking\n\nReview the status and appearance of food for freshness and maintain quality standards throughout the shift\n\nCheck in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed\n\nRun the department register, receive payment, and make change as applicable\n\nPractice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times\n\nRemove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessary\n\nOrder product and supplies and price product for customers as needed\n\nAnswer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking customer orders\n\nFollow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines\n\nPitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up\n\nYour Skills\nYou don't need extensive experience for this role; we'll provide the training you need to succeed. To hit the ground running, you'll need to be able to:\nBring commitment to Hy-Vee's mission and a genuine passion for helping customers\n\nFollow written and verbal instructions carefully and with attention to detail\n\nApply basic math skills including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording\n\nCommunicate clearly with customers and co-workers and contribute positively to the team\n\nLearn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department procedures\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home; Hy-Chi Department Manager; Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager; Service Managers\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent experience\n\nUp to six months of similar or related experience; we'll provide all the training you need to succeed\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a fast-moving role with significant pressure to meet demands throughout your shift. You'll work in the Hy-Chi department and can expect regular exposure to flour, dust, noise, and temperature extremes, as well as occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents.
