From managing orders and supervising truck unloads to training your team and troubleshooting equipment, your leadership behind the scenes directly impacts the experience our customers have every morning they walk through our doors.\nIf you're a strong leader who thrives in an overnight environment, stays cool under pressure, and takes pride in running a tight operation, this role is a great fit for you.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nSet and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and overall profitability\n\nSupervise and direct the overnight stock crew, assistant managers, departments, and custodian crews, assigning duties and holding individual check-ins\n\nOversee ordering from the warehouse including pre-orders for grocery, non-foods, and supplies, and coordinate work with assistant managers\n\nCoordinate the C.A.R.S. system including inventory setup, understock and backstock management, trigger settings, damage removal, and order review\n\nUnload trucks, break down pallets, sort items by aisle, and check in vendor deliveries piece by piece\n\nSupervise drop shipments, direct store deliveries, and oversee produce and frozen food truck unloading\n\nWrite the overnight stock schedule and monitor time-off requests, vacation requests, overtime hours, and sick call-ins\n\nTrain new employees on stocking, facing, order tags, UPCs, checkout, sacking, and customer service; train supervisors on register handling and department services\n\nMonitor crew productivity and conduct individual reviews with team members\n\nAssist with customer service including checkout, sacking, carry-outs, cash accountability, and day-end reports\n\nSet and reset new items, tags, and prices as needed, including in-store specials for prior ad items\n\nUnderstand and troubleshoot store equipment including electrical systems, registers, coolers, compressors, and display cases\n\nMaintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies\n\nAssist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed\n\nYou'll receive direction and support from: Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Perishables, Store Operations, and E-commerce\n\nYour Skills\nTo be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:\nLead and motivate a team in a fast-paced overnight retail environment\n\nSolve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variables\n\nUse basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages\n\nCommunicate clearly in writing and verbally with employees, vendors, and leadership\n\nStay organized, manage multiple priorities, and work independently through a full overnight shift\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required; three to five years of similar or related work experience preferred\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, and Assistant Managers of Health Wellness Home, Perishables, Store Operations, and E-commerce\nDirect Reports: Overnight Stock Employees\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required\n\nThree to five years of similar or related work experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance\n\nContinuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)\n\nWork in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product\n\nWhere applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor\n\nWhere applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing\n\nAbility to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a physically active role performed primarily during overnight hours throughout the store. You may encounter occasional exposure to noise, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, and cleaning chemicals or solvents, with frequent exposure to dirt. The role involves working with and around heavy store equipment including forklifts, power jacks, and compactors.
