From assisting with ordering and merchandising to learning to schedule and lead a team, this role builds the skills you'll need to run your own Seafood department.\nIf you enjoy fast-paced food service, take pride in product quality, and want hands-on leadership experience before running your own department, this role is a great fit for you.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nProvide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, treating customers as the most important people in the store\n\nLearn to prepare product for display and special orders, including properly cutting seafood\n\nAssist with writing ads, figuring department projections and actuals, merchandising product, and scheduling employees\n\nHelp order product, determine pricing, and control inventory\n\nReview product status and appearance for freshness, pulling stale product and rotating or replenishing as needed\n\nOffer meal solutions and preparation advice to customers\n\nHelp train new employees and step in for department leadership as needed\n\nEnsure proper temperatures and storage procedures are maintained to guarantee freshness and control shrink\n\nPractice proper sanitation procedures and maintain a clean, neat work area\n\nMaintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress\n\nAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as required\n\nYou'll receive direction and support from: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home, the Meat Department Manager, and Assistant Meat Department Manager\nYour Skills\nTo be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:\nSolve practical problems involving a variety of variables with limited standardization\n\nUse basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages\n\nCompose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and interact effectively with people\n\nLearn to train and support fellow department employees\n\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required, along with food safety training; some related work experience preferred\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Meat Department Manager; Assistant Meat Department Manager\nDirect Reports: Clerks, in the absence of department leadership\nEducation and Experience\nHigh school diploma or equivalent required, along with food safety training\n\nUp to one year of similar or related work experience preferred\n\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistance\n\nContinuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)\n\nWork in cooler or freezer environments for extended periods\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind product\n\nWhere applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactor\n\nWhere applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofing\n\nAbility to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandise\n\nWorking Environment\nThis position is exposed daily to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals/solvents, and electrical shock.
