In this role, you'll combine friendly customer service with a solid understanding of register operations to make checkout quick, easy, and enjoyable for every customer.\nIf you enjoy working with people, stay calm under pressure, and take pride in delivering a great experience, we'd love to have you on our team.\nWhat You'll Do\nNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:\nProvide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive one\n\nAssist customers at self-checkout lanes, educating them on how to use the equipment and ensuring their orders are processed accurately and efficiently\n\nPerform product scanning and order processing with occasional bagging and ensure proper handling of all forms of tender and coupons\n\nOperate the cash register accurately when needed and process all payment types including cash, checks, credit cards, coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, in-store charges, and lottery transactions\n\nCount back change, issue receipts, and provide cash refunds or credit memorandums for returned merchandise as needed\n\nEnsure compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC, food stamps, and the sale of tobacco, liquor, and lottery tickets\n\nAssist courtesy personnel and support drive-up and carry-out service as needed\n\nStay knowledgeable of item look-up numbers, department numbers, item features, and weekly ad price changes and sale items\n\nStock, face, and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, understand shelf tags, and take customers to items when requested\n\nKeep the register and self-checkout area clean, ensure adequate supplies are available, and report improper cash levels in the cash drawer\n\nVerify register balances at the beginning and end of each shift where applicable\n\nCommunicate clearly on the intercom or telephone and answer customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel as needed\n\nStay aware of your surroundings to support store safety and security\n\nAssist store management with displays and decorations for special promotions and events as needed\n\nAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned\n\nMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines\n\nReport to work when scheduled and on time\n\nYour Skills\nTo be successful, you'll need to be able to:\nFollow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables\n\nPerform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages\n\nUnderstand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing\n\nWork effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience\n\nReporting Relationships\nAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations, and eCommerce; Service Managers\nEducation and Experience\nNo education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed\n\nPhysical Requirements\nFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation\n\nWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment\n\nWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards\n\nPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties\n\nWorking Environment\nThis is a fast-paced role in a retail store environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have frequent exposure to temperature extremes and possible dampness, as well as occasional exposure to equipment movement hazards and cleaning chemicals or solvents.
