This role leads and supports capital projects from concept through commissioning, develops and maintains industrial control systems, and drives continuous improvement efforts that enhance safety, reliability, quality, productivity, and operational performance. Working closely with plant operations, maintenance, engineering, and external suppliers, the Controls Systems Engineer provides technical expertise in PLC, SCADA, HMI, robotics, and system integration while supporting the standardization and advancement of automation technologies across ENA facilities.\nEssential Job Responsibilities:\nCollaborate with ENA plants to identify, develop, and execute capital projects focused on automation and controls improvements.\n\nLead machine integration activities from installation through startup, commissioning, validation, and operational handoff.\n\nDesign, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize automated systems, industrial controls, and manufacturing processes.\n\nDevelop and maintain new and existing SCADA systems using Ignition.\nResearch, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing equipment, automation technologies, and control solutions.\n\nEnsure automation systems and equipment operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable standards and requirements.\n\nDevelop and improve manufacturing and testing processes to achieve quality, productivity, delivery, and cost objectives.\n\nRecommend and implement process improvements, equipment modifications, and automation enhancements that create operational value.\n\nEnsure manufacturing processes are capable, supported by appropriate controls, and able to meet production, quality, delivery, and cost targets.\n\nCollaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and suppliers to successfully execute projects and resolve technical challenges.\n\nSupport the standardization and continuous improvement of automation, controls, and manufacturing technologies across ENA facilities.\n\nWhat will make you successful?\nRequired Education/Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering.\nAt least 5 years of Industrial Automation Systems Design.\nIgnition Core Certification.\nAbility to program PLC logic in Rockwell and Siemens systems.\nPreferred Skills/Qualifications:\nIgnition Core Certification.\nExperience integrating shop-floor equipment and automation systems with enterprise applications, databases, manufacturing systems, and ERP platforms.\nAbility to interpret and utilize AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks drawings to support equipment design reviews, system integration, and project execution.\nExperience programming, integrating, and troubleshooting industrial robotics systems; FANUC and/or ABB experience.\nEqual opportunities\nHydro in North America is an Equal Opportunity Employer where all phases of employment are based strictly upon the qualifications of the individual as related to the work requirements of the position.
