And as Ontario’s largest municipally-owned producer of green power, we are leading the way to a greener tomorrow.\nWe are seeking a Project Engineer, a strategic thinker who can take initiatives from concept to completion and engineer the way to a smart energy future.\nAre you ready to make a difference in our community?\nJOB SUMMARY\nThe Project Engineer is at the forefront of high-impact, multidisciplinary engineering projects that contribute directly to the corporate priorities that drive our company forward. Key responsibilities include implementing the capital program through the project management of major substation builds and renewals, critical grid modernization initiatives, and more. The Project Engineer uses their expertise in systems integrations and both agile and risk-based project management methodologies to execute projects related to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), distributed energy resource (DER) connections, and other system integration projects that advance the distribution system at large. Beyond execution, the Project Engineer provides key technical and commercial input for engineering standards and procurement specifications, while actively collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project management and delivery. Crucial to the organization’s long-term strategy, the Project Engineer is a key driver behind our future capital programs and distribution automation, championing the transition toward a smarter and more resilient grid.\nMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES\nOversee the development and implementation of major capital projects and programs.\n\nProvide input into required capital programs for reliability and amelioration of constraints.\n\nOrganize, coordinate and control all stages of the project lifecycle of major capital and maintenance programs and projects in accordance with Hydro Ottawa policies, procedures, and specifications in all project phases from scoping to closeout.\n\nManage special projects/programs consisting of one or more sub-projects, from initiation to close out, complete with all required scope, schedule, and budget adherence, as well as risk and overall project reporting.\n\nProvide on-going project management in support of our key customer projects. This includes direct customer engagement to develop and execute against Hydro Ottawa’s large load connection process.\n\nEnsure all project objectives and targets are achieved within acceptable tolerances of scope, budget, schedule, safety and quality.\n\nDevelop financial estimates and project scoping.\n\nManage project schedules, scope, budgets and risks.\n\nPrepare electrical and civil consultant Requests for Proposals, develop bid packages and review and provide recommendations.\n\nManage consultants towards meeting project deliverables and deadlines for project design.\n\nCoordinate and contribute in drawing review meetings with consultants, vendors, and stakeholders.\n\nFacilitate the procurement of major station equipment and work with Standards to prepare contract specifications.\n\nManage vendors towards meeting project deliverables and deadlines during construction.\n\nCoordinate work with external third parties including Hydro One and IESO.\n\nFacilitate regular site meetings with stakeholders during construction.\n\nFacilitate effective communication between all stakeholders, both internal and external.\n\nIndependently track financial actuals and forecast budgets on a monthly basis and work with program oversight and CFO division as required for project reporting.\n\nEffectively close projects through completion of as-builts, documentation of lessons learned, and financial project close-out.\n\nProvide input during development of technical engineering standards.\n\nRepresent Hydro Ottawa at external working groups and conferences.\n\nSpecial projects as required.\n\nPerforms other duties as required.\n\nEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\nUndergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited university\n\nProfessional Engineer, licensed or able to be licensed in the province of Ontario\n\nExperience in a utility environment considered an asset\n\nProject Management and System Planning experience considered an asset\n\nPMP designation considered an asset\n\nExperience with Asset Management model beneficial\n\nKnowledge of ISO55000 considered an asset\n\nStrong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably Google Workspace and Microsoft Office\n\nADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS\nEnglish language skills essential, both oral and written; Bilingualism (French/English) or other languages considered an asset\n\nValid Driver’s license - Class G\n\nSuccessful completion of Driver Competency Assessment\n\nThis is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.\nHydro Ottawa offers a Hybrid Work Model.
