This position leads mechanical engineering projects, equipment improvements, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and other engineering functions.\nEssential Job Responsibilities:\nProvide mechanical engineering support for aluminum extrusion presses, billet heating systems, handling systems, saws, pullers, runout tables, aging ovens, packaging equipment, and related manufacturing systems.\nLead equipment reliability, productivity, and continuous improvement projects to improve safety, quality, throughput, and operating cost.\nTroubleshoot complex mechanical equipment and process issues and develop effective corrective actions.\nDesign, specify, modify, and improve equipment, components, tooling, and mechanical systems.\nDevelop engineering specifications, equipment layouts, drawings, calculations, and project documentation.\nLead capital projects from concept and justification through installation, commissioning, and startup.\nPartner with Maintenance and Operations to identify equipment reliability opportunities and eliminate recurring failures.\nAnalyze equipment performance, downtime, and process data to identify root causes and improvement opportunities.\nSupport preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for critical production equipment.\nEnsure engineering solutions comply with applicable safety, environmental, and industry standards. \nWork with suppliers and contractors on equipment selection, design, installation, and technical issues. \nSupport continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, root cause analysis, and structured problem-solving methodologies. \nParticipate in equipment and process risk assessments, MOC activities, and project reviews. \nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to maintenance and operations personnel as needed.\nWhat will make you successful?\nRequired Education/ Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering.\nAt least 10 years of engineering experience.\nExperience working in a manufacturing environment.\nPreferred Skills/ Qualifications:\nExperience supporting mechanical equipment in a large-scale industrial manufacturing environment, such as metals, aluminum, steel, foundry, automotive, or heavy process manufacturing.\n\nStrong working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting, system improvements, and failure analysis.\n\nExperience designing or implementing machine guarding, fail-safe systems, and engineering controls that reduce employee exposure to hazards.\n\nAbility to evaluate equipment layouts, maintenance access requirements, and space utilization for new equipment installations and plant modifications.\n\nExperience investigating structural integrity concerns involving industrial equipment, lifting systems, cranes, or supporting structures.\n\nEqual opportunities\nHydro in North America is an Equal Opportunity Employer where all phases of employment are based strictly upon the qualifications of the individual as related to the work requirements of the position.
